CoreWeave, the renowned AI hyperscaler, has announced a $2.2 billion investment for the expansion and opening of three new data centers in continental Europe by the end of 2025. This expansion is part of CoreWeave’s long-term strategy to provide advanced computing solutions, including NVIDIA’s Blackwell platform and NVIDIA’s Quantum-2 InfiniBand network, to the most innovative technology companies and AI leaders in the sector. This announcement adds to the previously announced $1.3 billion investment in the UK, bringing the total investment in the region to $3.5 billion.
Expansion to Meet Growing Demand
CoreWeave continues to expand rapidly to meet the growing global demand for accelerated computing solutions, crucial for training and serving the most sophisticated AI models. The company’s European footprint has been carefully designed to meet the regulatory and operational demands of the region, ensuring low-latency performance across all AI workloads and providing a sovereign data cloud for both European and UK clients.
New Data Centers in Norway, Sweden, and Spain
The company plans to build three new data centers in Norway, Sweden, and Spain by the end of 2025. These data centers will be powered 100% by renewable energy and will create job opportunities in the region. CoreWeave is hiring for various key roles, including engineering, operations, finance, and marketing positions.
Statements from Leaders
Mike Intrator, co-founder, and CEO of CoreWeave, stated: “Europe represents the next frontier for the AI industry and is a significant milestone in CoreWeave’s next phase of growth. We see a huge opportunity for CoreWeave in Europe – our GPU infrastructure will provide the European cloud market with the necessary computing solutions and tools to meet the growing demand for next-generation AI applications. We see this as the first of what we hope will be several significant investments in the region as we continue to activate our vision of being the preferred global AI hyperscaler.”
Johan Forssell, Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, commented: “CoreWeave’s investments in Sweden will strengthen critical AI infrastructure. This type of infrastructure and data power are prerequisites for innovative AI companies to thrive. We need to ensure that Sweden and Europe participate in building these facilities to put us at the forefront of economic growth, innovation, and productivity.”
Karianne Tung, Norwegian Minister of Digitalization, added: “I am pleased that significant investments in AI infrastructure are being made on Norwegian soil. This will contribute to the development and use of AI in Norway. Private investment in our technological infrastructure strengthens our position as a hub for technological development and AI.”
Cutting-Edge Technology for Europe
Jaap Zuiderveld, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Europe, Middle East, and India at NVIDIA, noted: “NVIDIA’s Blackwell platform and Quantum-2 InfiniBand network, available through CoreWeave’s platform, will set a new standard for AI performance in Europe by making supercomputing more accessible.”
Significant Momentum
Today’s announcement adds to CoreWeave’s significant momentum with the recent expansion in the UK, a $7.5 billion debt financing led by Blackstone Tactical Opportunities, a historic $1.1 billion Series C in May 2024, and a $2.3 billion debt financing in August 2023. The three new data centers will add to the two data centers already established in the UK.
This expansion positions CoreWeave as a leader in the field of AI infrastructure in Europe, providing the capability and flexibility needed to drive the next generation of AI applications.
