Apple unveils the M4 chip, the engine behind the new iPad Pro.

Apple has officially unveiled the new M4 chip, the revolutionary heart that powers the iPad Pro and offers an impressive leap in performance. Manufactured with second-generation 3-nanometer technology, the M4 is a system on chip (SoC) that further boosts Apple’s energy efficiency, making the ultra-thin design of the new iPad Pro and its Ultra Retina XDR display possible.

Unprecedented Performance

The M4 features a CPU with up to 10 cores and a 10-core GPU based on the advanced architecture of the M3 chip. This new processor introduces technologies such as dynamic cache storage, ray tracing, and mesh shading with hardware acceleration, taking the graphic performance of the iPad Pro to unprecedented levels.

Additionally, it integrates the fastest Neural Engine ever designed by Apple, capable of performing up to 38 trillion operations per second, surpassing the neural processing units in most current AI PCs. Along with faster memory speed and advanced machine learning accelerators, the M4 chip offers an extremely powerful and efficient device.

Johny Srouji, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Technologies, noted that the M4 chip and the new iPad Pro are “a perfect example of how designing the best own chips allows for creating revolutionary products.” Srouji highlighted that the improvements in CPU, GPU, and the Neural Engine enable outstanding performance in advanced AI applications.

New Technologies of the M4

CPU of 10 Cores: Four performance cores and six efficiency cores offer enhanced branch prediction, wider decoding engines, and advanced machine learning accelerators.

GPU of 10 Cores: Provides dynamic cache storage, mesh shading, and ray tracing through hardware acceleration for realistic graphics and performance 1.5 times higher than the M2 chip.

Neural Engine of 16 Cores: Executes up to 38 trillion operations per second for high-speed AI processing.

Enhanced Display Engine: Compatible with OLED technology in tandem, offering extraordinary color accuracy and support for 10 Hz to 120 Hz ProMotion.

Innovative Applications

The M4 powers applications like Final Cut Pro, which now allows for isolating a subject from the background in a 4K video with a single tap. The GPU also enhances performance in games like Diablo Immortal by providing realistic shadows and reflections thanks to ray tracing.

Environmental Commitment

The M4 chip enables the new iPad Pro to be energy-efficient, meeting Apple’s rigorous standards. The company, which is already carbon neutral in its corporate operations, has set the goal of achieving carbon neutrality for its entire supply chain and products by 2030.

In conclusion, the M4 chip redefines performance and efficiency standards, making the new iPad Pro a revolutionary device for AI and other applications that require high graphic performance.
