The environmental NGO bets on linguistic artificial intelligence to enhance its international collaboration and daily operations.
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in Switzerland has announced a strategic agreement with DeepL, the renowned global translation platform based on artificial intelligence, to boost its internal and external communication across multiple languages. The initiative aims to eliminate linguistic barriers that limit international cooperation, scientific outreach, and awareness campaigns in a distinctly multilingual country like Switzerland.
DeepL, key to connecting with French, German, and Italian-speaking audiences
From now on, several departments of WWF Switzerland will utilize DeepL to translate content and facilitate collaborative efforts among teams and international partners. As explained by Pierette Rey, deputy corporate communications director for WWF Switzerland, “DeepL’s technology marks a turning point for us, enabling our teams to communicate more efficiently and accurately. This is especially relevant in a country like Switzerland, which has several official languages, and for our international activities.”
Notable applications include:
External communication and media relations: DeepL will be used to translate and distribute WWF’s magazine and other materials aimed at raising awareness and funds. The multilingual support—especially in French, Italian, and German—will allow for greater dissemination of their messages.
Scientific and environmental collaboration: The WWF’s environmental department will employ DeepL to facilitate cooperation with Swiss and international institutions, enabling the sharing of research outcomes and environmental strategies without language barriers.
- Daily operations: The organization plans to integrate the DeepL plugin for Microsoft Office into its workflow, allowing for quick and precise translations of emails, Word documents, and PowerPoint presentations.
A partnership with global impact
For Jarek Kutylowski, founder and CEO of DeepL, this partnership represents an opportunity to amplify the reach and effectiveness of organizations with a global impact. “We are delighted to support WWF Switzerland in its vital work, enabling them to enhance their global influence through linguistic AI. Our technology is designed to empower collaboration, regardless of language or geographic location,” he stated.
A step closer to a more connected planet
The agreement with DeepL reinforces WWF Switzerland’s commitment to sustainability, not only environmentally but also operationally, by adopting cutting-edge technologies that promote efficiency and inclusion. The removal of linguistic barriers will enable the organization to operate more agilely in conservation campaigns, environmental education, and cooperation with international networks.
