The British firm offers comprehensive solutions with multi-billion-dollar capacity for critical digital infrastructure worldwide.
The insurance group W Denis has announced the creation of a new division specialized in insuring data centers and their integrated on-site power generation systems, positioning itself as one of the few insurers with a globally tailored approach to meet the needs of these critical infrastructures.
The new unit covers not only the buildings and technological equipment of data centers but also essential energy assets, ranging from traditional cogeneration (CHP) plants to modern clean energy systems such as BESS batteries, solar installations, wind, or hybrid systems. This coverage aims to ensure operational resilience against power grid failures and provide energy independence for operators.
W Denis offers multi-billion-pound, euro, or dollar insurance capacity, via direct policies and facultative reinsurance arrangements in collaboration with major international insurers and reinsurers. The solutions are designed for single-site programs, multi-site operations, or regional and global portfolios.
Coverage across the entire data center lifecycle
The product range includes insurance and risk management services covering all stages of a data center’s life, from construction to operation:
- “All Risks” construction insurance (CAR), including commissioning delays.
- Material damage during operational phases and machinery breakdowns.
- Business interruption coverage for utility service failures.
- Insurance for on-site energy generation assets.
- Third-party liability.
- Legal guarantees (zoning, easements, etc.).
- Cybersecurity, data breaches, and errors & omissions (E&O).
- Expert claims management support.
Beyond insurance, W Denis assists clients with risk consulting from the initial design stage, providing engineering advice, loss prevention strategies, and resilience planning.
“Protecting both data and energy”
Mark Dutton, the group’s commercial director, emphasized the strategic importance of this new offering:
“Data centers are critical assets with high energy consumption in today’s economy. Our division recognizes that effective protection must cover both the data and the energy that powers them. Clients benefit from deep technical expertise, extensive capacity, and comprehensive coverage from construction through operational phases.”
Through this initiative, W Denis reinforces its position as a strategic partner in the expanding digital ecosystem, amid increasing energy demands of data infrastructure and growing vulnerability to power failures and cyber incidents.
