Veeam, a global leader in data resilience solutions, has announced the launch of the new version of its plugin for Proxmox Virtual Environment (PVE) v12.1.3.197, compatible with Veeam Backup & Replication 12.3. This update introduces significant improvements in security, compatibility, and efficiency in backup management within virtual environments based on Proxmox VE.
Key Features of Version 12.1.3.197
- Rootless Access
It is now possible to integrate Proxmox VE with Veeam Backup & Replication using a sudo user instead of root, enhancing security and access control without compromising functionality. - Compatibility with Open vSwitch (OVS)
Support for Open vSwitch has been added, an optimized solution for virtualized environments that improves performance and flexibility in complex infrastructures. - Support for Smart Object Storage API (SOSAPI)
Backup jobs in Proxmox VE can now interact with object storage enabled with SOSAPI, improving performance and user experience compared to the standard S3 API. - Integration with Nested Pools
Support for nested pools has been introduced, allowing for more efficient management and backing up of virtual machines within virtualized environments. - Backup Engine Enhancements
The backup engine’s performance has been optimized, now capable of processing multiple threads simultaneously for faster and more efficient reads.
Notable Bug Fixes
- Restoration with Incorrect Operating System Type: Now, when restoring virtual machines from other hypervisors to Proxmox VE, the operating system type of the original backup is preserved correctly.
- Error in Backups of Powered Off Virtual Machines with PCIe Passthrough Devices: The management of these devices has been corrected, excluding them from the backup process to prevent errors and conflicts during restoration.
- Backup of Linked Clones: Now, if a virtual machine is a linked clone, the backup job will fail instead of backing up just the base disk without the delta changes.
Installation and Upgrade Process
- Download the package from Veeam’s official website.
- Transfer the
PVEPlugin_12.1.3.197.zip
file to the Veeam Backup & Replication server. - Close the Veeam console and ensure no processes are running (
veeam.backup.shell.exe
). - Extract and run the installer
PVEPlugin_12.1.3.197.exe
.
With this update, Veeam strengthens its integration with Proxmox VE, establishing itself as one of the most efficient solutions for managing backups and data recovery in virtualized environments.
