In an effort to reconcile the growing data consumption with environmental sustainability, the OASIX data center in Valencia has implemented an innovative clean energy solution. This proximity data center, located in the Paterna industrial estate, has installed 500 solar panels covering approximately 800 square meters of its structure, allowing for an annual production of 150,000 KWh exclusively for its operation. This solar system not only covers the annual consumption of 1,000 servers, but also significantly reduces the center’s carbon footprint, avoiding the emission of 75 tons of CO2 each year.
This project puts Valencia at the forefront of sustainable technological infrastructure, while responding to the demands of an increasingly digitized and environmentally conscious world. According to recent data, global data usage is expected to triple by 2027, and internet penetration rate in Spain is already at 96% in 2024. These figures underscore the growing reliance on digital services, as well as the need to manage them responsibly.
OASIX not only focuses on energy efficiency in Valencia but has also carried out similar initiatives in its Alicante center. In collaboration with the Norwegian company Over Easy, they have developed a system that optimizes the use of solar energy through a more efficient arrangement of the solar panels.
In addition to using solar energy, OASIX ensures that the rest of the energy used in its operations also comes from 100% sustainable sources. With these efforts, the data center not only seeks to minimize its environmental impact but also sets an example of how technology and sustainability can go hand in hand in the information age.
This innovative and environmentally conscious approach demonstrates a commitment to preserving the planet while ensuring operational efficiency in the technology sector. With projects like those in Valencia and Alicante, OASIX (a brand of Grupo Aire) positions itself as a leader in developing data solutions that are as environmentally responsible as they are responsive to the needs of their clients.
