The telecommunications multinational Lumen selects Atos for the modernization of its mainframe.

Atos, a global leader in digital transformation, has announced its selection by the global telecommunications company Lumen to lead a multi-year program to modernize its mainframe services. As part of this collaboration, Atos will provide Lumen with a new mainframe platform that will support its most critical applications.

The project involves the consolidation of three data centers managed by Lumen into a single center operated by Atos in the United States, enabling the deployment of state-of-the-art infrastructure. The solution will offer Lumen mainframe scalability similar to the cloud, spanning from computing power to service management and innovation. Additionally, the consumption-based billing model will allow Lumen to adjust the service according to its changing capacity needs.

As part of this initiative, Atos will also provide comprehensive technical support, including hardware and software, available 24/7, along with monitoring and operations services.

The migration of mainframe workloads will be carried out in planned phases to ensure that service levels are maintained at all times, ensuring the continuity of Lumen’s operations.

Michael Grunberg, CEO for North America of Tech Foundations at Atos, stated: “By transforming Lumen’s mainframe, we will provide the company with security, agility, and the ability to innovate, while supporting its business transformation goals. We look forward to deepening our relationship and creating opportunities to expand our collaboration in the future.”

Chad Naeger, CIO of Lumen, said: “Our mainframe is the heart of our computing system and our business. It demands the highest level of stability and security to drive our operations. We have entrusted Atos to modernize our mainframe environment, relying on their expertise, experience, and ability to drive our transformation goals.”

Atos, with over 45 years of experience in the mainframe field, was recognized as a leader in this sector by the Information Services Group (ISG) in July 2023, for the second consecutive year.

Lumen, with one of the largest and most extensive networks in the world, meets its customers’ needs in areas such as metro connectivity, long-haul data transport, cloud capabilities, security, and managed services. The services resulting from this collaboration will be offered exclusively in Lumen’s operations in the United States.
