The Community of Madrid and Microsoft Strengthen Their Alliance for a More Digital and Secure Education

The new agreement focuses on teacher training, free access to Office 365, and the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence in classrooms throughout Madrid.

Educational digitalization takes a new step forward in the Community of Madrid thanks to the renewal of the collaboration agreement between the regional government and Microsoft Spain. The objective: to enhance the digital skills of teachers and students, promote the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the classroom, and reduce the digital divide with advanced tools like Copilot and Office 365.

The Minister of Digitalization for the Community of Madrid, Miguel López-Valverde, and the Director of Public Sector and Education at Microsoft Spain, Natalia Escobedo, signed the agreement that will allow for the continued digital transformation of educational centers in the region.

“We want to put technologies in the hands of teachers that will help them in the classroom and in their daily lives, working together for an education aligned with the current digital society,” López-Valverde stated during the event.

For her part, Escobedo emphasized the positive impact of AI on education:

“This agreement allows us to bring Artificial Intelligence closer in an ethical, safe, and responsible manner, personalizing learning and optimizing educational processes.”

Training and free tools for teachers

The agreement includes free access to Office 365, enabling teachers and students to use applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, or OneNote to enhance academic performance and collaborative work.

One of the major innovations of the agreement is the integration of AI into teaching practice, facilitating the creation of personalized content, the automation of administrative tasks, and the design of more dynamic activities. Teachers will receive specific training in tools like Microsoft Copilot, through workshops and courses coordinated with the Directorate General of Bilingualism and Teaching Quality.

Additionally, Microsoft will provide teachers with the Microsoft Learn platform, offering optional certifications to recognize best practices in the classroom. Educators will also be able to join the Microsoft Innovative Educators community, which promotes the exchange of experiences among educational institutions.

Artificial Intelligence in the service of learning

AI will also play a prominent role in language teaching, thanks to advanced features of Microsoft Teams. These tools help improve reading fluency, pronunciation, and intonation in multiple languages, generating activities tailored to each student’s level, with multimedia content and personalized recommendations.

This integration will facilitate a more inclusive teaching approach, especially beneficial in classrooms with linguistic diversity or students with specific educational needs.

Commitment to privacy and digital security

One of the pillars of the agreement is to promote the safe and ethical use of AI in the educational environment. The Community of Madrid and Microsoft will encourage training in responsible digital skills, including content on privacy, digital identity, and cybersecurity.

Microsoft also guarantees strict compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), ensuring a reliable digital environment for the entire educational community.

With this alliance, Madrid positions itself as a pioneering region in the responsible use of educational AI, focusing on training, inclusion, and technology in the service of learning. A firm step towards a more modern, safe school adapted to future challenges.
