Sony, Panasonic, Legrand, Shure, BrightSign, and Xyte have partnered to promote a common standard in the AV industry based on open APIs and cross-brand collaboration.
A group of leaders in the audiovisual sector has introduced OpenAV Cloud, a new initiative aimed at accelerating the AV industry’s transition to the cloud by promoting interoperability, openness, and customer-focused innovation. Founding members include major names such as Sony Electronics, Panasonic Projector & Display Americas, Legrand, Shure, BrightSign, and Xyte.
This project arises in response to one of the historical barriers in the AV sector: proprietary systems that hinder integration among devices and brands, slowing down innovation and raising operational costs for integrators and end customers.
An Open and Collaborative Ecosystem
OpenAV Cloud aims to establish a common cloud working framework based on the use of open APIs, shared connectivity standards, and secure data control by the customer. The goal is to enable manufacturers, integrators, and end users to collaborate easily and efficiently, breaking down barriers imposed by closed environments.
“Customers today expect their technology to work together, regardless of brand,” said Sam Sabet, CTO of Shure. “OpenAV Cloud is precisely about collaborating to create interoperable, efficient, and future-oriented AV solutions.”
Meanwhile, Rich Ventura, Vice President of Professional Display Solutions at Sony Electronics, emphasized that the initiative not only simplifies integration but also enables savings in time, resources, and costs, promoting more agile adoption of cloud-based solutions.
Key Principles of OpenAV Cloud
Members of OpenAV Cloud are committed to:
- Responding to the demand for interoperable and flexible solutions.
- Developing and maintaining open APIs for data reading and writing.
- Collaborating on industry standards and best practices.
- Ensuring secure and customer-controlled access to data.
- Fostering cross-brand collaboration without exclusions.
An Open Invitation to the Entire Industry
Pamela Hoppel, President of Legrand | AV, underscored that OpenAV Cloud represents a turning point for the audiovisual industry:
“The future of AV lies in accessibility and collaboration. With OpenAV Cloud, we are taking a collective step toward a more connected and user-centered industry.”
Access to the initiative is free, and its proponents are calling on other AV manufacturers, system integrators, and managed service providers to join and contribute to building an inclusive and open ecosystem.
Official Launch: May 21, 2025
OpenAV Cloud will be publicly unveiled at a special online event on May 21, 2025, with participation expected from product leaders, developers, and integrators.
With this initiative, the AV industry takes a strategic step toward an open and standardized cloud infrastructure that addresses the challenges of present and future audiovisual collaboration.
