Telefónica Launches 5G Network Slicing for Businesses and Governments in Spain

Telefónica Empresas has become the first operator in Spain to offer 5G Network Slicing services, integrating this advanced functionality into its Movistar Intranet solution. As of October 30, companies and public administrations can access this new technology, which provides private, secure, and high-performance mobile connectivity, even in highly congested network environments.

A solution designed for high-demand environments

Network Slicing enables Telefónica to offer a stable and optimized mobile private connectivity service, especially in high-demand situations. This technology, based on Telefónica’s Stand Alone 5G network, provides a secure connection for corporate mobile devices, eliminating reliance on fixed networks and improving the user experience in mobility. Movistar Intranet now allows users to access their corporate networks regardless of their location, with the assurance that the connection will remain stable even in critical saturation situations.

The capabilities of Network Slicing are ideal for sectors that require guaranteed and prioritized connectivity in their business processes. In environments such as factories, hospitals, and vehicle fleets, this technology facilitates the operation of critical applications that require low latency and constant bandwidth without interference from other users on the public network. This service also represents an advantage for remote workers in congested environments, such as trains or high tourist areas, where access to corporate applications is essential.

Movistar Intranet: secure and cost-effective connectivity

Movistar Intranet is a solution that allows companies to integrate mobile devices into their corporate networks without the need for complex additional deployments. With this technology, the traffic from employees’ mobile devices is managed directly through Telefónica’s network, avoiding the use of public networks and protecting sensitive data. Furthermore, the solution shares the same addressing scheme as the fixed devices on the corporate network, which facilitates management and enhances security.

The implementation of Network Slicing in Movistar Intranet optimizes network resources, adapting them to each client’s specific needs and ensuring quality service even during peak demand times. Telefónica has already rolled out this solution to 800 business clients with over two million active lines.

Use cases and benefiting sectors

Telefónica emphasizes that this technology is key for sectors such as healthcare, Industry 4.0, and connected transportation. Thanks to the network segmentation enabled by Network Slicing, hospitals will be able to integrate medical devices in real-time, facilitating constant and precise monitoring. In the industrial sector, it will allow factories to eliminate wiring and adopt greater mobility in their operations, optimizing data-driven decision-making in real time.

Additionally, Telefónica has led several innovative pilot projects with Network Slicing in Spain. From live drone broadcasting at the Spain Sail Grand Prix to the implementation of the first 5G network for a hotel in Europe, the company has been at the forefront of showcasing the potential of this technology in high-demand environments.

Network Slicing: a pillar for high-quality 5G

Network Slicing technology relies on Telefónica’s Stand Alone 5G network, which already covers 89% of the national territory. This advanced infrastructure allows the establishment of a layer of specific services close to the user, providing connectivity tailored to their needs. With this service, Telefónica responds to the growing demand for private mobile networks, an increasingly sought-after alternative by companies looking to enhance productivity and reduce dependence on fixed networks.

Telefónica’s vision for the future of business connectivity

The incorporation of Network Slicing into Movistar Intranet reflects Telefónica’s vision of providing high-quality and secure connectivity solutions to businesses and public administrations. In an increasingly mobile and digital work environment, where data protection is crucial, the operator aims to establish itself as a reference in mobile connectivity solutions for the business sector.

With this new offering, Telefónica Empresas opens a door to innovation in connectivity for corporate clients, facilitating their adaptation to the digital age with tools that respond to the growing demands for security, speed, and flexibility in an increasingly interconnected world.
