The National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) has published the annual list of the main operators in the markets of fixed telephony and mobile telephony in Spain for the year 2024. The data reflects significant changes in market shares, particularly following the merger of Orange and MásMóvil, which has reconfigured the competitive landscape.
Fixed Telephony: Telefónica Maintains Leadership
In the fixed telephony market, Telefónica remains the leading operator with a 41.9% market share, although it shows a slight decrease from 42.1% last year. In second place is Orange, which after the integration with MásMóvil, takes on a 33.2% market share, a notable increase from the 19.7% in 2023.
Vodafone ONO holds the third position with a 17.7% share, experiencing a slight decline from 18.9% the previous year. Digi, in fourth place, consolidates its position with a 2.4% market share, while Colt returns to the ranking with a 1.5% share, displacing MásMóvil, which in 2023 held the fourth spot with a 14.9% before its merger with Orange.

Impact of the Orange-MásMóvil Merger
The merger between Orange and MásMóvil, approved by the European Commission in February 2024, has had a profound impact on both markets, solidifying Orange as a dominant player in Spain. This move, combined with the growing presence of operators like Digi and Aire Networks (Grupo Aire), reflects a constantly evolving sector.
Legal Restrictions and Competition Control
The main operators must comply with the obligations and limitations set by the RD-Law 6/2000, designed to prevent anti-competitive practices. These include restrictions on the exercise of voting rights in multiple companies and the obligation to notify shareholdings exceeding 3% in more than one main operator in the same market.
A Market in Constant Transformation
This year’s results indicate a dynamic telecommunications market, with increasing competition and significant changes in market shares. In both fixed and mobile telephony, consolidation and technological innovation continue to shape a key sector for the economy and digital development in Spain.
