T-Systems and Universitat Rovira i Virgili join forces to create the Chair in Cloud Native Applications.

T-Systems, the digitalization services division for businesses and public administration of Deutsche Telekom, has established a collaboration with the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) to create the Chair in Cloud Native Applications. This initiative aims to provide students with a solid understanding of key concepts in cloud native application architecture.

According to Osmar Polo, CEO of T-Systems Iberia, cloud technologies are becoming a global standard, driving the digitalization of businesses. It is essential that the future tech talent is equipped to work with modern cloud-native application environments. The Chair in Cloud Native Applications will focus on teaching best practices for designing, developing, and deploying native cloud applications using the AWS platform.

The program will enable students to acquire skills in implementing and managing cloud applications, which is particularly relevant at a time when the use of cloud systems is on the rise in Spain, with 32% of companies with 10 or more employees using cloud systems, according to the National Observatory of Technology and Society (ONTSI).

The Chair will facilitate students’ understanding and integration of AWS services, such as AWS Lambda, Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS), Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), and Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), as well as the use of automation tools like AWS CloudFormation or AWS CodePipeline to simplify the deployment and management of native cloud applications.

The rector of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Josep Pallarès Marzal, has emphasized the importance of this public-private collaboration and the training offered by T-Systems to strengthen technological education at the university.

The Chair also includes the granting of scholarships and aid to support the training and development of the university community in digitalization topics, with the possibility of internships and the opportunity to work at T-Systems. In addition, knowledge dissemination activities related to digitalization will be carried out, promoting national and international meetings and collaborating with other Chairs at the university with complementary objectives in the field of the URV Talent Incubator.
