Swisscom has introduced the Swiss AI Platform, an innovative infrastructure designed to enable businesses to reliably and efficiently implement artificial intelligence (AI) applications, supported by a system operated in data centers located exclusively in Switzerland. This development ensures the storage and processing of data within Swiss territory, providing companies with a secure and modular environment to adopt advanced AI solutions.
The platform, equipped with the first NVIDIA SuperPOD system in Switzerland, allows companies to process large volumes of data with high computational capacity, whether for training models, tuning them, or using them in ongoing operations. Swisscom has already started collaborating with clients to test initial applications, reinforcing its commitment to digital transformation in the country.
A Swiss Approach to Artificial Intelligence
The Swiss AI Platform addresses the growing demand for an independent infrastructure that allows companies to manage their data with full sovereignty, especially in sensitive sectors such as finance and public services. “Protecting intellectual property and complying with Switzerland’s strict privacy regulations are essential for AI projects, and our platform is specifically designed to meet those requirements,” explained Urs Lehner, Head of Business Solutions at Swisscom.
Furthermore, the modular design of the platform offers flexibility for companies to choose from various components, ranging from basic infrastructure to specific application services. GPU as a Service provides access to the NVIDIA SuperPOD system, while the AI Work Hub facilitates collaborative analysis and processing of large volumes of data by data scientists and developers.
Practical Applications and Initial Use Cases
Swisscom is already testing several applications in collaboration with clients. For example, in partnership with the Thurgauer Kantonalbank (TKB), the platform is being used to develop a chatbot that allows employees to efficiently consult internal instructions. Similarly, Swisscom is working with emergency organizations to automate the transcription of calls and enrich records with additional information, improving operational management.
Another highlighted use case is the GenAI Studio, which will be available in spring 2025 and will provide access to generative artificial intelligence services via APIAn API, short for “Application Programming Inter…. This will enable companies to create customized solutions tailored to their specific needs, such as chatbots or content generation for marketing.
Swisscom has also begun using the platform internally to automatically respond to inquiries from corporate clients and to generate consistent brand images in their advertising campaigns.
A Center of Excellence for AI in Switzerland
The Swiss AI Platform benefits from the expertise of 400 AI and data specialists at Swisscom, who collaborate with global experts from NVIDIA. This center of excellence not only develops customized solutions but also fosters technological innovation in a secure and reliable environment.
“The Swiss AI Platform is a Swiss solution for the Swiss economy. We provide a powerful and reliable infrastructure to ensure that sensitive data is in good hands,” emphasized Lehner.
Future Perspectives
Swisscom continues to position itself as a leader in technological innovation, helping Swiss companies integrate artificial intelligence into their operations securely and efficiently. With the Swiss AI Platform, the company not only strengthens digitization in Switzerland but also reinforces its commitment to data protection and technological sustainability.
