Sungrow, a global leader in renewable energy and storage solutions, has officially introduced the new PowerTitan 3.0 Energy Storage System (ESS), set to revolutionize the large-scale energy storage sector. This system, now available for commercial applications, features groundbreaking innovations in energy density, efficiency, safety, and intelligence, addressing current and future demands of the global energy transition.
A Modular and Flexible Platform for Any Scenario
The new PowerTitan 3.0 platform has been designed to overcome traditional limitations in energy storage. It is available in 10ft Flex (3.45 MWh), 20ft Class (6.9 MWh), and the impressive 30ft Plus (12.5 MWh) versions, which positions it as the highest-capacity and energy-dense Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in the world. The latter version reduces the area occupied by 45% and cabling by 10% compared to previous solutions, significantly optimizing large-scale projects.
The system can operate stably in extreme conditions, from -40 °C to +55 °C, and at altitudes of up to 5,000 meters, maintaining maximum performance without the need for "derating" or power reduction.
Innovations in Battery Cells and Thermal Safety
One of the major milestones of PowerTitan 3.0 is the introduction of the 684Ah stackable battery cell, the first of its kind in mass production. This cell allows for record energy densities of up to 448 Wh/l and a lifespan exceeding 15,000 cycles, translating to lower operating costs and greater long-term reliability.
In terms of safety, Sungrow has developed Thermo-Electric Separation technology, which isolates high-temperature gases within the module and prevents thermal failures from spreading between adjacent cells. This ensures that high density does not compromise the system’s operational safety.
Liquid-Cooled Power Conversion and World-Class Efficiency
PowerTitan 3.0 features the industry’s first large-scale, fully liquid-cooled Power Conversion System (PCS) based on silicon carbide (SiC). This technology provides a capacity of 450 kW per unit and achieves maximum efficiency of 99.3%, even in high-temperature environments. The system can continuously operate at 55 °C and reaches a full-cycle efficiency of 93.5%, making it an ideal solution for extreme climates and applications in regions such as the Middle East.
Intelligence, Rapid Deployment, and Predictive Maintenance
Sungrow’s new system emphasizes advanced automation and integration with smart platforms. The platform is delivered pre-installed, pre-configured, and block-tested, allowing for reduced deployment times in large projects (up to 17 days faster for a 1 GWh system).
It includes tools like PowerBidder, to optimize participation in electricity markets and maximize profitability, and PowerDoctor, a predictive maintenance solution capable of anticipating over 30 types of faults with higher than 99% accuracy, facilitating guided intervention and reducing the risk of unplanned outages.
Grid-Forming and Total Support for the Power Grid
Thanks to its Stem-Cell Grid-Forming 2.0 technology, PowerTitan 3.0 can anticipate disturbances in the power grid and respond in under 20 milliseconds, aiding recovery after blackouts and guaranteeing ancillary services at all levels: generation, transmission, microgrids, and end consumption. The system is capable of supporting gigawatt-scale black starts and smoothly transitioning between grid-following and grid-forming modes, providing unique flexibility for renewable integration.
A Solution for the Major Challenges of the Energy Transition

The PowerTitan 3.0 system will be showcased at SNEC 2025, the world’s largest solar energy and storage event, scheduled for June 11-13 in Shanghai.
