Starlink, operated by SpaceX, has surpassed a new milestone by reaching over 2 million active customers solely in the United States, according to the company itself. This exponential growth has been driven by aggressive promotional offers, such as free antennas in exchange for a commitment to a service contract, resulting in a direct savings of €349 for users when signing up.
Globally, Starlink’s customer base now exceeds 6 million, positioning the United States as its most established and dynamic market, accounting for more than 30% of all subscribers. This progress is also evident in Spain, where similar offers with free installation are now available, making Starlink a real alternative in rural or hard-to-reach areas lacking traditional fixed networks.
### Speeds of up to 200 Mbps During Peak Demand
In addition to its user growth, Starlink emphasizes the reliability and performance of its satellite network, ensuring that the average download speed for users—even during high demand—approaches 200 Mbps, with an average latency of 25.7 milliseconds. These figures, according to their own data, surpass many traditional fixed-line connections in certain regions of the country.
Although the company hasn’t specified whether “active customers” refer to individual connections or multiple users per account, the numbers suggest over 2 million individual installations. Globally, this supports the technical viability of Starlink’s satellite constellation, which continues to expand with frequent launches of new-generation satellites.
### Next Goal: 1 Gbps and Mobile Connectivity via Satellite
One of Starlink’s strategic plans for the coming months is to offer 1 Gbps connections, thanks to Starlink V3 satellites. These satellites will not only increase bandwidth for residential users but also pave the way for direct connectivity from mobile devices that have at least 4G LTE technology. This will be a game-changer for regions still lacking stable mobile coverage or fiber optic access.
Furthermore, SpaceX plans to develop more specialized service variants, such as enterprise, maritime, or aviation solutions, establishing Starlink as a comprehensive global internet access platform for various environments.
### Steady Growth Despite Controversies
Despite numerous public criticisms of Elon Musk, founder and CEO of SpaceX, the service’s growth in the U.S. has not been impacted. Industry analyst Tim Farrar highlights that much of the growth is attributable to the popularization of the low-cost “Lite” package and free antennas linked to one-year commitments. Conversely, some international markets have begun showing signs of slowdown or subscription decline, which may be due to the lack of offers as competitive as those in the U.S. or Spain.
> “The growth in the United States probably reflects the low-cost Lite package and free antennas with a one-year commitment,” Farrar states. “This growth has continued despite public criticisms of SpaceX’s CEO Elon Musk.”
### A Solid Commitment to Global Connectivity
With this new phase of expansion, Starlink reaffirms its role as a key actor in global connectivity. Its ability to provide high-speed internet in remote areas without the need for terrestrial infrastructure positions it as one of the most relevant technological solutions to bridge the digital divide.
As new satellites are deployed and service is enabled for mobile devices, Starlink could redefine internet access in the 21st century, marking a significant milestone in the democratization of global connectivity.
