Spain Promotes Its “Third Digital Way” as a Model of Innovation and Technological Humanism

The Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Function, Óscar López, highlighted in the XV edition of the Spain Investors Day forum the ambitious path of Spain towards digital development that balances ethical principles, sustainability, and innovation. Under the concept of “digital third way,” López pointed out that Spain is leading a unique approach that combines democratic values with technological advancement.

Technological Humanism as a Driver of Development

In a context marked by climate emergency, geopolitical tensions, and the rapid evolution of disruptive technologies, the minister emphasized that technological humanism is the key to balanced and responsible development. “It is the formula for success that we want to share with international investors,” López stated, inviting companies to join Spain’s digital initiatives through public-private collaborations.

Investment in Key Technologies

Spain is allocating €40 billion to strategic projects in technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), 5G, supercomputing, and cybersecurity. Among the highlighted programs, López mentioned:

  • National AI Strategy, with an investment of €1.5 million, focused on promoting ethical and responsible artificial intelligence.
  • Perte Chip, a project allocating over €12 billion to strengthen the semiconductor and microelectronics industry.
  • Initiatives such as the Intel-BSC Lab, the Spain Audiovisual Hub, and the first Cisco design center in the European Union, funded through the Spanish Society of Technological Transformation (SETT), with a budget of €16 billion.

SETT: A Key Tool for Investors

SETT, created as a one-stop shop to facilitate technological investments, aims to streamline investment processes and analyze risks in areas such as AI, quantum technology, and chips. According to López, its specialization and logistical capacity position Spain as an attractive destination for international investors.

Strategic Advantages of Spain

López highlighted distinguishing factors of Spain that enhance its competitiveness in the digital field, including:

  • Leadership in affordable renewable energy.
  • Advanced digital infrastructures.
  • High labor productivity and GDP growth.
  • Low inflation and notable logistical capacity.

A Message to Investors

The minister concluded his remarks by inviting investors to consider Spain as a strategic partner in the race for global technological innovation, emphasizing that the country offers unique opportunities in a competitive and ethical environment. “Spain positions itself as a leader in the integration of technology and values, and we want investors to be part of this transformation,” he concluded.
