SEMI Europe awards Schneider Electric and ASM leaders for their outstanding contribution to the semiconductor industry.

Dallal Slimani, Chief Strategy Officer at Schneider Electric, has been awarded the SEMI European Award and Dr. Ivo Raaijmakers, Corporate Vice President and Executive Advisor at ASM, with the Special Service Award. Established over 30 years ago, the SEMI European Award and the Special Service Award recognize key players in the global manufacturing supply chain, highlighting their excellence in leadership and strategic contributions that lead to decisive advancements in the industry.

“We are honored to recognize Dallal Slimani and Dr. Ivo Raaijmakers for their outstanding leadership and enormous contributions to the semiconductor community,” said Laith Altimime, President of SEMI Europe. “These extraordinary leaders have been instrumental in helping the semiconductor industry meet its goals and inspire future generations to progress towards a sustainable future.”

“This award is a testament to the tremendous effort, dedication, and collaboration of an incredible partnership with SEMI and all our partners,” stated Slimani. “I am very grateful for this great recognition. I firmly believe that by collaborating and participating in the Catalyze program, we can drive the necessary changes for our industry to contribute to creating a more environmentally sustainable planet. The Schneider Electric team is proud to be part of this transformation.”

The SEMI European Award recognizes Slimani’s leadership in driving sustainability initiatives and applying circular economy principles in Europe for Schneider Electric, culminating in the Catalyze program to help decarbonize the semiconductor value chain.

“It is exciting to see how ALD and PEALD, a technology little known 25 years ago, have become the critical deposition technology of the moment,” said Dr. Raaijmakers. “Many ASM teams contributed to this technology that today enables the creation of 3D devices with new advanced materials.”

Dr. Raaijmakers’ distinguished career and leadership have been essential in the research, development, and commercialization of Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) and Plasma-Enhanced ALD (PEALD) equipment and processes, technologies that have shaped and continue to influence the semiconductor industry. The talent of ASM’s Finnish ALD and Korean PEALD groups has allowed them to integrate their innovations into a range of international products, driving the success of both technologies in the market. Dr. Raaijmakers joined ASM in 1996 and served as Chief Technology Officer from 1999 to 2022.

Nominations for the 2024 SEMI European Award are now open. Check the award guidelines. Previous winners of the European SEMI Award came from companies such as Melexis, imec, Soitec, CEA-Leti, Dresden University of Technology, KU Leuven, STMicroelectronics, EV Group, Infineon, and Fraunhofer Institute.
