S2 Grupo, in collaboration with Globalan Telecomunicaciones and TRC, has been selected by the Government of Canarias to lead the creation of the region’s first Cybersecurity Center, known as CSIRT-CAN. This contract, valued at 7.49 million euros, marks a significant milestone in Canarias’ cybersecurity strategy and has been funded by the European Union through the Plan for Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience (PRTR).
Objective of CSIRT-CAN
The CSIRT-CAN (Computer Security Incident Response Team) will focus on developing a specialized cybersecurity center, significantly enhancing the prevention, surveillance, and detection of threats in the computer systems of the Canarias Public Administration and participating local entities. This innovative project will help create a safer digital environment for all Canarian citizens.
Rafael Rosell, commercial director of S2 Grupo, commented: “The creation of CSIRT-CAN represents a paradigm shift in Canarias’ cybersecurity, moving from an isolated system to a robust one connected to the Spanish CSIRT network and with the ability to expand to municipalities, thus improving the cyber protection of Canarian citizens.”
Coordination and Collaboration in the Cybersecurity Center of Canarias
CSIRT-CAN will not only support and enhance cybersecurity surveillance and response capabilities but will also work jointly and in coordination with the Corporate SOC of the Government of Canarias, which will continue to manage the security of government information systems and networks. Pedro Pablo Perez, General Director of TRC, stated: “Projects like this demonstrate Spain’s drive in offering advanced technological solutions in cybersecurity. Being part of this project allows us to contribute to technological development in Canarias and enhance regional cybersecurity. Additionally, the CSIRT has a vocation for disseminating and improving knowledge in cybersecurity, crucial for prevention.”
Strengthening of Digital Security Infrastructure
The center will be crucial in strengthening the digital security infrastructure in the region, ensuring a more robust protection of sensitive data and improving the resilience of computer systems against cyber threats. The participation of Globalan, as a local integrator, is essential for the success and long-term sustainability of the project, bringing deep knowledge of the environment. Carlos Rodriguez, CEO of Globalan, highlighted: “The initiative to promote this consortium stems from the deep knowledge of the environment we possess. This guarantees the continuity of the project and is essential for its long-term success and sustainability. Additionally, we will invest in the training and promotion of future professionals in Canarian universities and specialized vocational training centers.”
A Boost for Digital Transformation
With this contract, S2 Grupo, along with its partners Globalan and TRC, will contribute to the development of new capabilities in the public administration, aligning with the objectives of the EU-funded Plan for Recovery and Digital Transformation. This project will not only strengthen cybersecurity in Canarias but will also boost knowledge and training in cybersecurity, benefitting the entire community.
