Red Hat launches RHEL for business developers: development and production united on a single platform

The new edition of Red Hat Enterprise Linux will enable enterprise development teams to work in the same environment as production, at no cost and with direct access through the Red Hat developer program.

Red Hat has announced the launch of Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Business Developers, a new variant of its well-known enterprise distribution, specifically designed for internal development and testing environments. This free edition, available through the Red Hat Developer Program, allows teams to build enterprise applications on the same operating system used in production, ensuring consistency, security, and operational efficiency throughout the application lifecycle.

Finally aligning development and production

The growing complexity of IT environments—which encompass physical, virtual, cloud, and even edge infrastructures—is exacerbated by the rise of artificial intelligence, microservices, and the increase in vulnerabilities within software supply chains. In this context, Red Hat is committed to offering a solution that makes developers’ work easier without compromising security policies or the reliability of corporate environments.

“Modern developers need to progress at their own pace without causing friction with operations teams or production systems. This new offering provides them with a consistent, production-ready base from the very beginning,” explains Gunnar Hellekson, Vice President and General Manager of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Up to 25 instances per user and enterprise tools

Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Business Developers offers:

  • Up to 25 free instances per user (physical, virtual, or cloud), activated through self-service from the developer portal.
  • Signed and verified content: open-source libraries, programming languages, tools, and databases ready for building modern applications.
  • Container tools such as Podman Desktop, supporting bootable images and local containers.
  • Optional enterprise support options for those needing professional technical assistance.

Access is intended for business development teams, not necessarily tied to the IT department, allowing greater autonomy in digital innovation projects, data analysis, or AI-based applications.

Complementing other developer offerings

This new product complements existing subscriptions:

  • Red Hat Developer Subscription for Individuals: free, designed for personal use and learning.
  • RHEL Developer Subscription for Teams: aimed at large organizations and managed through a Red Hat representative or partner.

With this addition, Red Hat broadens opportunities for companies of all sizes to accelerate innovation without sacrificing security, environment consistency, or operational efficiency.
