Proofpoint completes the acquisition of Tessian

Proofpoint has officially announced the completion of its acquisition of Tessian, a leading company in the use of advanced artificial intelligence for automatic detection and protection against accidental data loss and constantly evolving threats in email.

The combination of Proofpoint’s leading threat protection and data loss intelligence with Tessian’s dynamic, behavior-based, AI-driven detection will provide organizations with the most comprehensive defense available against human layer risks in any deployment model they choose. Targeted attacks on individuals and human errors remain responsible for over 90% of successful cyberattacks, from ransomware to business email compromise (BEC) fraud, and over 90% of data loss, including 65% of data loss incidents caused by misdirected emails.

Unlike other solutions that rely solely on threat intelligence or limit their detections to artificial intelligence, this joint solution will have the ability to deliver unprecedented effectiveness against a wide variety of people-centric threats, from social engineering to malware and credential phishing. Additionally, the combined platform will enable organizations to prevent data loss across critical collaboration channels, from email to the cloud and endpoints, leveraging a leading combination of user activity, behavioral AI, and data classification.

Proofpoint is expected to deliver these powerful joint solutions in early 2024

Darren Lee, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Proofpoint’s Security Products and Services Group, said, “Tessian’s innovative technology will further enhance Proofpoint’s threat and information protection platforms, adding powerful layers of AI-driven defense that will address user risk behaviors, including misdirected email and data exfiltration. We are delighted to welcome the Tessian team to Proofpoint and look forward to helping organizations address the most common form of data loss in the most critical stages of the attack chain.”

Jerry Kowalski, Chief Information Security Officer at Jefferies, added, “Email remains a key risk vector and a central target for many organizations. We are looking forward to seeing how the combination of Tessian’s behavior-based approach with Proofpoint’s industry-leading data will protect businesses against the most advanced forms of email risk and data loss.”

Recently, Tessian was named a “strong performer” by Forrester Research, Inc. in the report “The Forrester Wave™: Enterprise Email Security, Q2 2023 – The 15 Providers That Matter Most And How They Stack Up,” receiving the highest possible ratings in the criteria of vision, support, and customer success.
