Perplexity has announced the launch of Deep Research, a deep research tool that provides detailed answers with verifiable citations for professional use. With this launch, the artificial intelligence company enters competition with similar tools from Google and OpenAI.
Advanced AI Research
Deep Research allows for comprehensive analysis across various disciplines such as finance, marketing, technology, and product research. The tool searches for information in hundreds of sources, analyzes documents, and iteratively adjusts its approach, simulating the methodology of a human researcher. Its capability for generating detailed reports can aid decision-making in business and academic environments.
Users can access the feature by selecting “Deep Research” in the Perplexity query menu, obtaining a report that can be exported as a PDF, text document, or shared directly on the platform. Additionally, Perplexity’s functionality allows users to customize their queries and adjust research parameters according to their specific needs.
Differentiation and Performance
Deep Research stands out for its speed, completing most tasks in under three minutes, surpassing processing times of OpenAI, which range from 5 to 30 minutes. Furthermore, the tool achieved a 21.1% accuracy on Humanity’s Last Exam, a benchmark in AI assessments, outperforming models like Gemini Thinking (6.2%) and OpenAI’s GPT-4o (3.3%), although it fell short of OpenAI’s version (26.6%).
Perplexity has also optimized the use of computational resources, achieving greater energy efficiency in its analysis processes, which helps reduce operational costs and improve access for users with different subscription levels.
Availability and Freemium Model
Unlike OpenAI, which offers a similar service with a subscription of $200 per month, Perplexity offers Deep Research for free with a limit of five queries per day for non-subscribers. Pro version subscribers can conduct up to 500 queries per day, allowing for nearly unlimited access to the tool.
The tool is already available in the web version and will be integrated into Mac, iOS, and Android apps in the coming weeks. Perplexity has also announced future integrations with knowledge management systems and enterprise platforms to facilitate the automation of research processes.
Use Cases and Applications
Deep Research is designed to assist in generating expert knowledge in sectors such as technology, health, economics, education, and travel. Its capabilities include:
- Financial Research: Market assessments, investment analyses, and economic trend studies.
- Marketing and Technology: Study of digital trends, optimization of business strategies, and analysis of technological innovations.
- Current Events and Health: Detailed summaries on general interest topics, reports on medical advancements, and data-driven health recommendations.
- Academic Research: Search and compilation of scientific literature, bibliographic references, and generation of academic summaries.
With this initiative, Perplexity aims to democratize access to advanced research tools, facilitating the generation of detailed reports quickly and efficiently, positioning itself as a viable and accessible alternative to premium solutions from competitors.
