Palo Alto Networks Announces Idira: The Next-Generation AI-Powered Identity Security Platform

Palo Alto Networks, a cybersecurity company, has announced the launch of Idira™, a new identity security platform designed to discover, manage, and govern all digital identities within organizations, eliminating the isolated silos that currently increase security risks in enterprises.

With this new solution, the company takes a step forward in the evolution of modern privileged access management (PAM), incorporating agentic capabilities that allow the extension of dynamic privilege controls to both human identities and machine and system identities based on artificial intelligence.

Palo Alto Networks highlights that the expansion of AI has profoundly transformed the concept of privilege within companies. Today, users, applications, machines, and intelligent agents can autonomously access large-scale sensitive systems and data. However, many traditional identity solutions were designed for a very different context, where privileged access was limited to a small group of users.

The company warns that identity has become one of the main attack vectors for organizations. According to data provided, nine out of ten companies experienced security incidents related to digital identities in the past year.

Furthermore, the exposure surface continues to grow due to the increase in machine and AI system identities, which far surpass human identities. Additionally, a large portion of privileged access remains granted through permanent permissions, rather than on-demand temporary access systems, increasing vulnerability to potential threats.

With Idira™, Palo Alto Networks aims to address this new scenario through a platform based on AI-driven visibility, dynamic controls, and governance tools. The goal is to eliminate permanent privileges and provide advanced protection for all digital identities, regardless of their nature.

Peretz Regev, Chief Product and Technology Officer, Idira, Palo Alto Networks

“Identity has become the new battleground for AI-driven companies. Now that adversaries access systems by logging in rather than exploiting vulnerabilities, every identity has become a target. Idira transforms how organizations protect this critical asset, evolving beyond traditional PAM and integrating security for machine identities, with the aim of providing comprehensive protection for agentic identities. By combining the deep expertise of the original PAM pioneers with the unmatched scale and speed of Palo Alto Networks, we give leaders the precision and control needed to govern the entire identity ecosystem and secure the future of innovation.”

Trusted by organizations safeguarding some of the world’s most critical environments, Idira helps secure all identities within AI-driven enterprises, enabling organizations to:

  • Discover identity risks: prevent threats using AI to continuously identify and immediately remediate each identity, privilege, and access route within the company.
  • Control all privileges: shift from static access to dynamic controls through Zero Standing Privilege (ZSP) and just-in-time access for all identities.
  • Automate governance: apply AI-driven policies to transform compliance into automated governance, managing the entire identity lifecycle.

Current CyberArk SaaS customers can easily benefit from Idira’s next-generation capabilities:

  • Traditional PAM (IT Standard): will automatically receive improvements in discovery and user experience, with the option to add Zero Standing Privilege (ZSP), as well as protection for agentic and machine identities through additional licenses.
  • Modern PAM (IT Enterprise and Dev): can immediately leverage advancements in discovery, ZSP, and user experience at no extra cost, with the option to purchase security for agentic and machine identities.
  • Workforce Access: will receive immediate enhancements in user experience and can evolve toward full ZSP, traditional PAM, and protection for agentic and machine identities to strengthen their identity security strategy.
  • Machine and AI identity security: customers with Secrets or Workload licenses can easily add traditional PAM and ZSP solutions to unify management on the Idira platform through new licenses.

Will Townsend, Chief Analyst, LoneStar Advisory & Research:

“Over the last two decades, privileged access management was focused on credential vaults. That’s no longer the case. The enterprise has become a complex network of human, machine, and agentic identities. To understand this complexity, identity must evolve from a control point to an operational model. Palo Alto Networks is uniquely positioned, thanks to its broad portfolio and CyberArk’s deep PAM expertise, to set a new standard.”

With Idira, Palo Alto Networks advances traditional identity security approaches to offer the proactive protection modern enterprises need. By providing a unified platform with AI-driven governance and permanent zero privileges for all identities, Idira enables organizations to move beyond mere identity management and start truly protecting them.
