OVHcloud, a global provider and European leader in cloud services, has announced today the opening of its first data center in Italy, located in the Milan region. This new milestone brings the total number of data centers operated by the group worldwide to 44 and strengthens its expansion in Southern Europe, aligning with a global strategy for sustainable and sovereign growth.
“We are very pleased to announce the opening of our 44th data center in the world and the first in Italy. This expansion of our cloud infrastructure is part of a broader strategy for deployment in Europe and internationally,” stated Benjamin Revcolevschi, CEO of OVHcloud.
A New Data Center and the First 3-AZ Region Outside France
With 26 data centers in Europe, the new facility in Lombardy solidifies OVHcloud’s strategic position on the continent. This is the first step toward establishing a 3-AZ (three availability zones) region outside of France, designed to ensure high redundancy, maximum availability, and low latency levels.
This 3-AZ model involves the operation of three data centers located just a few kilometers apart, each with independent power supply and network connections. It is specifically oriented toward sectors with high security and regulatory compliance requirements, such as finance, healthcare, and public administration. The deployment of this region is planned for the end of 2025.
Boosting International Expansion
The entry into Italy adds to a series of new international openings in key cities like Mumbai, Toronto, and Sydney. Throughout 2024, OVHcloud will also begin the global deployment of its “Local Zones,” public cloud environments closer to customers that allow for greater agility and flexibility.
To date, 28 Local Zones have already been activated, and ten additional data centers have opened since 2021. The total investment since the group’s IPO has reached 1 billion euros in CAPEX, aimed at products and infrastructures that meet the most demanding requirements in data residency and cloud performance.
The roadmap for 2026 includes new Local Zones in Bogotá, Tallinn, and Johannesburg, further strengthening its presence in Europe, North America, and the Asia-Pacific region.
“Our ambition is to support the digital transformation of public and private organizations, in Europe and worldwide, by providing them with a secure, sustainable, and sovereign cloud that complies with local regulations,” Revcolevschi affirmed.
OVHcloud: The Sustainable European Cloud
With over 450,000 servers in operation across 44 data centers on four continents and a customer base of more than 1.6 million in 140 countries, OVHcloud stands as the major European alternative to the U.S. giants in the sector. Its vertically integrated model, from server design to fiber-optic cabling management, allows it to offer predictable pricing, high performance, and complete data sovereignty.
The opening in Italy reaffirms its commitment to a responsible, accessible cloud tailored to the new demands of the European digital environment.
