Oracle Autonomous Database is now available on Oracle Database@Azure.

Oracle and Microsoft have announced that Oracle Autonomous Database is now available on Oracle Database@Azure in the Microsoft Azure East U.S. region. This is the second time an Oracle database service is running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) in Azure data centers. Oracle will manage the Oracle Autonomous Database cloud service, allowing customers to accelerate application innovation and development speed, and migrate their existing Oracle databases to the cloud.

A Leap Forward in Digital Transformation

Oracle Autonomous Database is known to be a critical database for the world’s largest and most important enterprises. This fully automated and managed service is now integrated with the Azure portal and APIs, enabling global organizations to securely migrate and run any workload, from the simplest to the most critical. Running on Real Application Clusters on the Exadata Cloud infrastructure, it provides the highest performance, availability, security, and scalability.

“96% of the Fortune Global 100 companies and thousands of other leading organizations worldwide rely on Oracle databases to run their businesses,” said Karan Batta, Senior Vice President of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. “Since the launch of Oracle Database@Azure, we have seen incredible demand from customers, leading us to make this strategic investment and offer the world’s first autonomous database on Azure. With Oracle Autonomous Database, organizations can accelerate their data center exit plans and enable Azure developers to build solutions with ease.”

Advantages of Oracle Autonomous Database on OCI in Azure

With Oracle Autonomous Database running on OCI in Azure data centers, developers can easily provision a leading industry data platform that can accommodate any data model or development for any use case. This eliminates or reduces complex and lengthy integrations. With this fully managed and fully functional option, application developers gain access to large-scale database services with the highest performance, security, and availability features.

Oracle Autonomous Database can accelerate development speed with an integrated low-code development platform called Oracle APEX, a comprehensive set of data engineering tools called Data Studio, a machine learning notebook interface for data scientists, and easy access to data lakes with support for the Apache Iceberg open table format and Delta Share open data sharing protocol. Developers can easily use SQL, JSON documents, graphs, geospatial data, text, ML, and vector similarity search from a unified interface and a single database to quickly build new solutions and add new features.

Additionally, Oracle Autonomous Database can accelerate application innovation with integrated AI capabilities and a wide selection of large language model (LLM) models. Developers and data scientists can easily enable RegAug Generation (RAG) through their proprietary unstructured data in various formats, such as PDFs, images, videos, and audio clips, using the Oracle database’s integrated vector processing capabilities, called AI Vector Search.
