Oracle and AWS Expand Collaboration with the Launch of Oracle Database@AWS in Preview

Oracle has announced the limited availability of Oracle Database@AWS, a solution that will allow customers to run Oracle Exadata Database Service on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) directly on Amazon Web Services (AWS). This initial rollout will be available in the AWS US East region and aims to simplify the migration and deployment of critical enterprise workloads to the cloud.

This strategic collaboration between Oracle and AWS facilitates the integration of Oracle databases with advanced AWS applications and services, such as Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and Amazon Bedrock, providing low-latency connectivity and a managed experience that combines the capabilities of both platforms.

A Solution for Critical Workloads

Oracle Database@AWS addresses the growing demand from businesses to migrate their critical databases and applications to the cloud without sacrificing performance or functionality. The solution supports Oracle Exadata and Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC), ensuring compatibility with mission-critical workloads while leveraging proven tools like Oracle Zero Downtime Migration to streamline the process.

The solution includes a unified management experience between OCI and AWS, simplifying database management, billing, and technical support. Additionally, customers can benefit from flexible licensing schemes, including the option to Bring Your Own License (BYOL), as well as discount programs such as Oracle Support Rewards (OSR).

Key Advantages

Some of the main features of Oracle Database@AWS include:

  • Integrated Connection and Analysis: Customers can connect and analyze data stored in Oracle databases with applications running on AWS without needing to develop additional pipelines.
  • Flexibility and Compatibility: Customers can migrate their databases to the cloud seamlessly, using familiar tools and architectures that reduce deployment times.
  • Simplified Procurement and Support: Services are available through the AWS Marketplace, enabling customers to consolidate their commitments with AWS and Oracle into a unified support experience.
  • Optimization for AI and Advanced Analytics: The integration with AWS AI and machine learning services, along with the new capabilities of Oracle Database 23c AI, allows businesses to accelerate the development of microservices-based applications and reduce time-to-market for new features.

Prepared for the Next Generation of Applications

Oracle Database@AWS also positions itself as a key solution for unifying data in multicloud environments, allowing customers to integrate analytics, machine learning, and generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). The collaboration with AWS aims to maximize the performance and sustainability of workloads through the use of specialized hardware, such as Oracle Trainium and other high-density solutions.

Furthermore, this solution enables the development of scalable applications using Kubernetes and container services like Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) and Amazon ECS. These capabilities help businesses modernize their applications and optimize data and resource management in the cloud.

A Forward-Looking Approach

Oracle and AWS plan to expand the availability of Oracle Database@AWS to other regions in the coming months. This launch reinforces the strategy of both companies to provide multicloud solutions that enable organizations to take advantage of the best of each environment.

With this initiative, Oracle and AWS not only solidify their position in the cloud services market but also offer businesses a unique opportunity to modernize their operations and remain competitive in a constantly evolving digital environment.
