The telecommunications company Ooredoo has launched a new cloud computing platform specialized in artificial intelligence, aiming to position Qatar as a digital leader in the region. The service is based on state-of-the-art graphics processing units and is entirely housed in data centers within the country, ensuring data sovereignty and an optimized infrastructure for AI application development.
The new cloud is managed by Syntys, the data center subsidiary that spun off from Ooredoo earlier this year after an investment operation with an international sector player. This infrastructure has been designed to scale to a capacity exceeding 120 megawatts and includes an initial investment of $1 billion. While specific details about the exact number or model of chips used have not been disclosed, it is known that the platform utilizes Nvidia Hopper accelerators, a reference in the field of AI computing.
In addition to hardware, customers of this new cloud will have access to a suite of enterprise software for artificial intelligence, which will facilitate the training, deployment, and maintenance of advanced models. This comprehensive approach aims to attract both large organizations and startups developing AI-based solutions.
The launch is part of the country’s efforts to diversify its economy and accelerate digital transformation. High-performance computing and artificial intelligence are strategic pillars in national plans to modernize key sectors such as healthcare, education, logistics, finance, and smart cities.
The operator thus reinforces its role as a driver of technological innovation in Qatar. The new cloud reduces dependence on external infrastructures, enhances security in handling sensitive data, and shortens processing times, which is a key advantage for projects requiring significant computational power.
This move is also part of a broader regional trend: major Gulf economies are heavily investing in digital infrastructure to become global tech hubs. In this context, Qatar is now taking an important step with a cloud designed by and for its territory but ready to compete on an international stage.
The launch of this platform marks a milestone for both the tech sector and the Qatari economy, opening the door to a new era in the adoption of intelligent solutions at local and regional levels.
