The healthcare sector continues to advance in the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, with one in every two organizations using these tools to improve efficiency and optimize their internal processes. This is revealed in the recent Ascendant Report on AI from Minsait, a subsidiary of Indra, which analyzes the level of AI adoption in private companies and public institutions.

Efficiency and Patient Relationship, Main Motivations

The report highlights that 50% of healthcare organizations consider efficiency and process optimization as the main reason for adopting artificial intelligence. Additionally, 41% of entities indicate that improving knowledge and patient relationships is a key motivation for implementing these technologies.

Use Cases in the Healthcare Sector

The study identifies the main use cases of AI in the healthcare sector. 76% of organizations have improved medical care and diagnosis through AI, using tools for automated detection of pneumothorax, pleural effusions, early identification of arthritis, and prediction of tumors through images. On the other hand, 58% of organizations use AI in the management of resources and hospital operations, ranging from predicting drug stockouts to scheduling shifts and managing hospital beds.

AI is also used for patient data management and analysis (58%), customer knowledge (40%), and cybersecurity (33%). In many cases, AI is able to analyze, draw conclusions, and identify patterns, significantly improving operational management and personalized care.

Strong Support from Senior Management

60% of surveyed organizations indicate that senior management strongly supports the use of artificial intelligence, recognizing the advantages it can bring to both business and patient experience. Antonio Martos López, Global Director of Health at Minsait, comments: “Organizations in the sector are focused on using AI to improve their operations, diagnosis, and disease prevention, as well as to enhance the patient experience and provide personalized care.”

Budget Priority and Workgroups

The report also reveals that 40% of companies have created medical workgroups to explore the possibilities of AI in the healthcare sector. Additionally, 60% of organizations allocate the necessary resources for AI development, and 70% estimate that their investments in this technology will increase significantly in the next two years.
