NTT DATA, a global leader in digital and IT services, has announced the successful deployment of a testbed for the Gaia-X Digital Clearing House in Japan. This milestone marks the first implementation of this technology outside of Europe, underscoring Gaia-X’s commitment to globalization and promoting international collaborations.
The project, which is part of a data space initiative led by the University of Tokyo, involves industry giants such as Toshiba, SoftBank Corp., NTT DATA and NTT Communications. The goal of this deployment is to create a development and testing environment that allows for the operation of interoperable data spaces within the Japanese digital ecosystem.
The Gaia-X Digital Clearing House (GXDCH) is a platform that ensures the secure and reliable exchange of data, validating and certifying participants’ compliance. Through automated trust evaluations, the system promotes transparency and interoperability in data spaces, based on region-specific policies, rules, and regulations.
“We are delighted to see the technology of the Gaia-X Digital Clearing House being adopted outside of Europe,” said Ulrich Ahle, CEO of Gaia-X. “This collaboration with NTT DATA is a significant step towards our mission to support the creation of a truly global federated digital infrastructure, respecting data sovereignty and promoting innovation.”
Although the current deployment is limited to development and testing purposes, it lays the groundwork for broader adoption of data space standards based on a federated infrastructure in Japan. Gaia-X looks forward to NTT DATA’s formal accreditation as an official Clearing House of Gaia-X, which will further solidify this partnership and enable operational use of the technology in the Asian country.
“This collaboration is a testament to the strength of our alliance with NTT DATA and our shared vision of a secure and federated data space,” added Ahle. “We look forward to NTT DATA obtaining official accreditation, which will further enhance data interoperability and trust both in the Asia-Pacific region and globally.”
The deployment in Japan reinforces Gaia-X’s commitment to expanding its global presence and promoting international cooperation. This project not only aligns with Gaia-X’s strategic objectives but also demonstrates the scalability and adaptability of its model in different regions and industries, respecting local data regulations.
