The new hire will lead the expansion of sustainable edge data centers in industrial and metropolitan regions across the country.
The European edge data center platform nLighten has announced the appointment of Andreas Herden as its new CEO for Germany, aimed at driving strategic growth and sustainable development of its data center network within the country.
Herden brings extensive experience in the digital infrastructure and data center sector. Prior to joining nLighten, he served as Senior Vice President of Sales for Continental Europe at Green Mountain and was Chief Sales Officer at Lefdal Mine Data Centers. He has also held various positions at Equinix, including sales leadership roles across automotive, financial, and manufacturing industries. This background has made him a recognized figure within the European industry.
“nLighten’s data centers are distinguished not only by their technological innovation but also by a holistic approach that balances customer needs with environmental requirements. That’s exactly what the market demands, and I want to make a difference in this space,” said Andreas Herden. “Creating an ecosystem that combines connectivity, performance, and sustainability as a new standard clearly positions nLighten at the forefront of the industry.”
Goal: Leadership in Sustainability and Digital Sovereignty
In his new role, Herden will focus on strengthening nLighten’s presence in Germany’s industrial and metropolitan regions, aligning with the company’s mission to provide high-performance, environmentally friendly edge infrastructure.
Harro Beusker, CEO and co-founder of nLighten, expressed enthusiasm about the appointment:
“We are delighted to welcome Andreas to our executive team. His experience and strategic vision will be crucial in accelerating our expansion in Germany and moving toward our goal of a sustainable and sovereign digital infrastructure in Europe.”
An Ambitious Expansion Strategy
Headquartered in Amsterdam and founded in 2021, nLighten already operates 34 peripheral data centers across Europe and aims to reach 100 centers within the next three to four years, supported by infrastructure investment fund Squared Capital. Its focus is on sustainability, proximity to users, and low latency—critical elements to meet current technological challenges driven by AI, 5G, and real-time computing.
With Andreas Herden’s arrival, nLighten is strengthening its commitment to the German market and positioning itself to lead the future of edge data centers in Europe.
