NetApp and NVIDIA enable companies to securely communicate with their data in generative AI projects.

NetApp® (NASDAQ: NTAP), the intelligent data infrastructure company, has teamed up with NVIDIA to enhance the generative augmented retrieval (RAG) generation in generative artificial intelligence applications.

In this way, the NVIDIA NeMo Retriever microservices – integrated into the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software platform for the development and deployment of enterprise AI applications, including generative AI – connect with vast amounts of data stored in NetApp’s intelligent data infrastructure. This improvement allows NetApp ONTAP® customers to seamlessly and securely access their enterprise data, without compromising the privacy or security of it.

Companies looking to leverage publicly available language models can now do so with the assurance that their private data is protected. Previously, companies developing internal chatbots, co-pilots, or applications using enterprise data faced challenges in terms of security and privacy. NetApp and NVIDIA have streamlined this task with the NVIDIA NeMo Retriever microservices technology for RAG, leveraging any data stored in NetApp ONTAP, both on-premises and in the public cloud.

With this solution, NetApp customers can easily access their data, whether they are spreadsheets, documents, presentations, technical drawings, images, meeting recordings, or information from their ERP or CRM systems through simple prompts, all while maintaining strict control over who can access them.

“As a leader in unstructured data management, NetApp makes data infrastructure intelligent to securely optimize AI deployment. Together with NVIDIA, they have helped over 500 data-driven companies adopt this technology,” said George Kurian, CEO of NetApp.

The combination of NVIDIA’s NeMo Retriever microservices with NetApp ONTAP infrastructure provides tens of thousands of companies access to their data regardless of location, both on-premises and in major public clouds. This integration reduces the complexity, costs, and time associated with deploying generative augmented retrieval (RAG), providing greater value for businesses.

The new capability, allowing customers to “talk” to their corporate data specifically for enterprise RAG, complements NetApp’s AI offering. More than 500 customers from both companies are leveraging it for AI model training and inference, including solutions built on NVIDIA DGX BasePOD and certified for NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD, as well as the new NVIDIA OVX system storage validation program, specifically designed for enterprise RAG.

NetApp’s “Talk to your Data” capabilities will be showcased at NVIDIA GTC, the global AI event held in San Jose, California, from March 18 to 21. For more information, visit NetApp booth number 1616 at the AI Center of Excellence.
