Nearby Computing is preparing for its expansion, driven by a 6.5 million euro investment.

Nearby Computing, the leading platform for orchestration and automation for Edge Computing, has closed a Series A funding round of 6.5 million euros with the goal of accelerating its market expansion.

Founded in 2018 in Barcelona as a spin-off of the Barcelona Super Computing Center (BSC), Nearby Computing enables industrial and Telco companies to maximize the benefits of Edge Computing technology. Through advanced orchestration and automation of applications and networks, including MEC (Multi-Access Edge Computing) environments and private 5G networks, their Nearby One platform manages all levels of the network ecosystem through a single interface. This enables use cases such as Connected Vehicles, massive IoT in industrial environments, as well as in Retail or Defense and Security, among others.

The recent funding round was led by Walter Ventures and JME Venture Capital, with participation from Telefónica (through Wayra Ventures) and Akamai Technologies. Additionally, existing investors such as Cellnex Telecom, Lenovo, and Grupo Redeia also contributed to the successful closing of the round. This investment will allow Nearby Computing to rapidly expand into key sectors, enhancing its ability to empower its sales force and consolidate its leadership in strategic regions such as North America, Asia-Pacific, and Europe.

Josep Martí, CEO of Nearby Computing, commented: “As we strengthen our presence in the market, our main objective is to empower more companies and service providers with advanced Edge Computing and software automation solutions. With Nearby One, companies have access to a comprehensive solution for their entire network ecosystem, no matter how sophisticated it may be.”

Albert Font, director of Walter Ventures, expressed his belief that Nearby Computing is on track to set new standards in enterprise and telecommunications networks. “With an excellent team, renowned strategic partners, and cutting-edge product, Nearby Computing is well equipped to help customers meet the growing market demands,” he stated.

According to Gartner’s 2023 report, it is expected that by 2027, 20% of large enterprises will implement Edge Computing orchestration and management solutions, a significant increase from the 1% adoption rate recorded in 2022. This projected growth underscores the potential of Nearby Computing to expand its market coverage and help companies implement cutting-edge automation solutions.
