National Grid Renewables signs power purchase agreement with Microsoft

National Grid Renewables has announced the signing of a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Microsoft for its Solar Portage Project, a 250-megawatt (MW) facility located in Portage County, Wisconsin.

Project Details
The Solar Portage Project, expected to begin construction in 2025 and come online in 2027, promises to bring significant economic and environmental benefits to the region:
– Estimated to generate millions of dollars in new tax revenue and income for landowners.
– Create new jobs and stimulate local spending.
– Establish a community-dedicated charitable fund, a unique feature of National Grid Renewables projects.

The direct economic impact of the Solar Portage Project is estimated at approximately $88 million over the first 25 years of operation.

Commitment to the Community
Blake Nixon, President of National Grid Renewables, expressed his enthusiasm for business development and economic growth in the neighboring state of Wisconsin. “Through our contract with Microsoft, we are providing Wisconsin residents with direct and indirect income streams from the Solar Portage Project,” Nixon stated.

As part of the agreement with Microsoft, National Grid Renewables will donate an additional $20 million over the term of the agreement to a community fund. The Sustain Our Future Foundation will receive and distribute these funds to support communities with insufficient resources and those disproportionately affected by pollution.
