Most Spaniards trust that AI will help them in their work, rather than replacing them.

Softonic has published the results of a new survey that evaluates users’ opinions on the use and impact of artificial intelligence (AI). The study reveals that, although there is significant concern among Spaniards about the risks associated with AI, the majority believe that this technology will help them in their jobs rather than replace them.

Concern and Hope

The study shows that 53% of respondents in Spain expressed concern about the potential negative effects of AI or remained undecided, compared to 47% who believed that AI will help create a better society. This figure reflects greater caution among Spaniards regarding the risks of AI compared to the global average.

Adoption of AI in the Workplace

Regarding the adoption of AI in the workplace, the report notes that only 34% of Spaniards use this technology in their work, compared to 46% globally. This difference suggests a gap in technological adoption between Spain and other countries. In addition, the latest IndesIA barometer highlights that only 2% of Spanish SMEs are currently implementing AI, emphasizing the road ahead in integrating AI into the Spanish business fabric.

Perception by Age

The Softonic report reveals that younger workers are more likely to use AI in their jobs. Globally, 56% of employees aged 18 to 24 say they use this technology, compared to 45% across all ages. However, these young people are also more likely to believe that AI could replace their jobs (46% compared to 31% of all respondents).

Optimism in Spain

In Spain, however, there is a greater sense of optimism. 64% of respondents believe that AI will help them with their work tasks, while only 24% anticipate that AI will take over most of their tasks. These data indicate that, although there is concern, the majority of Spanish workers see AI as a tool to improve their efficiency and productivity.

Most Used AI Tools

The survey also highlights the most popular AI tools. Globally, ChatGPT leads with 42% of AI users having used it, followed by Google Gemini (Bard) with 20% and Microsoft’s Copilot with 16%, not far behind the powerful Claude 3. Among all respondents, 21% use AI at work to complete creative tasks, a percentage higher than the 16% who use it for back-office tasks.

The results of Softonic’s survey reflect a mixed attitude towards AI in Spain: a combination of caution and hope. While a significant portion of the population is concerned about the risks, the majority have confidence in AI’s potential to improve their job performance. As technology continues to evolve, it will be crucial to foster the adoption and understanding of AI to maximize its benefits and minimize its risks.
