Microsoft begins construction of a new Data Center in Málaga (USA)

Microsoft has taken a significant step in its global expansion with the start of the project for a new data center campus on the Málaga-Alcoa highway in Málaga, Washington. The development, which began in June 2023, is in its initial phase, and the construction of the first building is expected to be completed by early 2026.

Project Details
Microsoft’s data center complex in Málaga is designed to meet the growing demand for cloud services. The project planning includes the construction of three data center buildings, a substation to supply power to the entire campus, and the installation of water tanks and landscaping measures. The first phase of development encompasses a data center building, ancillary facilities, and a substation.

The construction will be carried out in several stages. The general contractor has started with land clearing and the demolition of some existing buildings. Building construction is expected to commence in May 2024 and extend until early 2026. While the building construction is on schedule, the operational availability of the data center is not guaranteed for that date, as it will depend on customer demand.

Impact and Benefits
Microsoft’s data centers are essential for modern technological infrastructure. These centers enable the functionality of mobile applications, virtual classes, photo storage, and online gaming. Additionally, they are crucial for the daily operations of local businesses, government agencies, hospitals, and schools.

To minimize disruptions during construction, work will be conducted from Monday to Friday, from 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with occasional work on Saturdays during the same hours. Microsoft has ensured that measures will be taken to reduce dust using tanker trucks and that the community will be kept informed of the progress of the works.

Commitment to the Community
Microsoft is committed to keeping residents informed about the project’s progress and conducting operations at times that cause minimal inconvenience. The company has emphasized its intention to carry out the project in a respectful manner towards the environment and the local community.

This project signifies a significant investment in the region’s technological infrastructure and reinforces Microsoft’s commitment to expanding its cloud capabilities to meet the growing global demand.
