The Taiwanese manufacturer announces its first 2nm chip and reveals a range of AI, 5G, IoT, and automotive-focused solutions during Asia’s leading tech event.
During its participation in COMPUTEX 2025, MediaTek once again demonstrated its technological ambition and leadership in semiconductors by announcing the tape-out of its first 2-nanometer chip, set to take place in September in collaboration with TSMC. This new chip will mark a milestone in energy efficiency and power, exceeding current 3nm chips by 15% in performance and reducing power consumption by 25%.
According to Rick Tsai, Vice President and CEO of MediaTek, this breakthrough “opens the door to a new generation of devices with real-time inference capabilities, instant translation, and energy autonomy, key to expanding artificial intelligence from smartphones to vehicles and smart cities.”
From 2nm to the World of Generative AI
MediaTek is not only betting on 2nm as a technological benchmark, but it is also working on an AI-driven roadmap. Currently, it collaborates with developers on over 250 AI models, including names like Gemini, DeepSeek, and LLaMA, as well as more than 100 IoT models, reflecting its ambition to dominate industrial, consumer, and enterprise sectors.
During the event, MediaTek presented a clear strategy: hybrid computing, which integrates computing and connectivity to eliminate information silos. As a demonstration, it unveiled the first 5G gateway with integrated generative AI, which won the Computex Best Choice Award.
It also showcased a connected smart home experience with AI hubs that allow for configurable collaborative agents on each device. In collaboration with NVIDIA, MediaTek presented its concept of “edge cloud,” combining RAN cloud with device computing, all with ultra-low latency and advanced data governance.
Supercomputing with AI and Collaboration with NVIDIA
One of the standout announcements was its partnership with NVIDIA for the development of the NVIDIA GB10 Grace Blackwell superchip, intended for DGX Spark, described as the world’s smallest AI supercomputer, capable of running models with up to 200 billion parameters and achieving a performance of 1,000 TOPS. This machine is designed to bring AI power directly to developers’ desktops.
MediaTek also revealed its custom ASICs for AI data centers, optimized with high-speed interconnects and modern HBM packaging, ideally suited to meet the growing demands of cloud AI.
Dimensity Auto: AI and 5G at the Wheel
The MediaTek Dimensity Auto line is positioned as key to the next generation of smart vehicles. The Dimensity Auto Cockpit C-X1 provides a virtual assistant with generative AI models, surround sound, and support for 8K + Dolby Vision HDR. Meanwhile, the MT2739 chip enhances connectivity with 5G DSDA 3Tx, optimizes networks based on the environment, and can even automatically initiate an emergency call in case of an accident.
Genio Platform: AI for IoT
The MediaTek Genio platform expands with new versions like Genio 720/520, compatible with generative AI for sectors such as robotics, healthcare, and retail. The NeuroPilot tool, alongside NVIDIA TAO, enables the training of AI models on Android, Yocto, and Ubuntu operating systems. MediaTek is already collaborating with companies like Advantech, ADLINK, and VIA to expand these solutions.
Smart Connectivity and Advanced Multimedia
Regarding connectivity, MediaTek showcased collaborative antenna technologies across devices, as well as its Filogic Wi-Fi with AI, which can detect interference and allocate bandwidth based on application needs. It also introduced its non-terrestrial 5G-Advanced NTN LEO NR technology over Ku band, making its debut in Taiwan.
In the multimedia realm, it highlighted its 15,000-zone mini-LED RGB backlighting SoC, boasting improvements of up to 276% in brightness compared to OLED. It also introduced an 8K upscaler at 60 Hz with AI, capable of enhancing images in real time without the need for an operating system.
MediaTek continues to reinforce its leadership in AI, connectivity, automotive, and IoT with a clear strategy from the edge to the cloud. The future of high-performance, sustainable computing tailored for AI inevitably passes through its ecosystem.
