Malaysia Advances Towards Digitalization with a Blockchain-Driven Digital Identity Ecosystem

The leading digital services company in Malaysia, MY E.G. Services Berhad (“MYEG”), in collaboration with MyDigital ID Solutions Sdn Bhd (“MYIDSSB”), has announced a strategic partnership to establish the MyDigital ID Superapp, a national digital identity ecosystem based on blockchain technology. This development marks a significant advancement in the fight against online fraud and promotes the modernization of the country’s digital infrastructure.

An Innovative Platform for Identity Management

The MyDigital ID Superapp is designed to integrate digital identity management into commercial and government services securely, scalable, and efficiently. Built on Malaysia’s Blockchain Infrastructure, a national initiative led by the MIMOS agency, the superapp not only facilitates secure authentication but also includes tools such as an electronic wallet, news broadcasting features, and a software development environment.

This platform will allow companies to integrate digital identity verification directly into their applications or as miniapps within the superapp. This reduces the need for multiple authentication systems, enhances user experience, and optimizes operational costs.

Privacy and Security as Fundamental Pillars

One of the standout features of the MyDigital ID Superapp is its focus on privacy and data security. Unlike other platforms, the superapp does not store personal information, as all data interactions occur directly between the user and the service provider. This architecture ensures compliance with privacy regulations and guarantees maximum confidentiality.

MYEG’s expertise in electronic payment solutions, combined with MYIDSSB’s experience in cybersecurity, authentication, and certification ensures that this platform is both secure and user-friendly, adapting to the needs of Malaysia’s digital economy.

A Decisive Step Against Cybercrime

This collaboration addresses a critical issue: the impact of online fraud. According to the State of Scam Report 2024, Malaysia lost 54.020 billion ringgit (about 12.800 billion dollars) in the last year due to scams, equivalent to 3% of the country’s GDP. Across the Southeast Asian region, cybercrime caused estimated losses of 37 billion dollars in 2023, many driven by the use of artificial intelligence.

By integrating blockchain and artificial intelligence tools, the MyDigital ID Superapp aims to protect users and enhance interoperability in national and international economic transactions.

Impact and Future Vision

The development of the superapp is set for completion by the first quarter of 2025. Its goal is to provide a flexible and adaptable solution without disrupting existing systems. This joint effort between MYEG and MYIDSSB reflects a strategic approach to drive the country’s digital transformation and leverage the potential of public-private collaboration.

Dato’ Fadzli Shah, co-founder of Zetrix, emphasized: “This collaboration marks a crucial step in improving Malaysia’s digital landscape, simplifying access to digital services while maintaining the highest standards of security and privacy.”
