The Community of Madrid has announced a significant increase in funding for the Cybersecurity Agency for 2025, aimed at strengthening its response capacity against cyberattacks and enhancing digital security in the region. This budget increase, approved by the Governing Council as part of the General Budget Law project, allocates 3 million euros to the Cybersecurity Agency, an effort aimed at consolidating the protection of infrastructure and public services against the growing threats in the digital realm.
A Budget Increase and New Specialized Resources
The Ministry of Digitalization will have a budget of 567.2 million euros for the upcoming year, representing a 10.4% increase over the previous year. This increase includes funding for the Cybersecurity Agency, which will focus on prevention, detection, and rapid response to cyberattacks. Among its new additions is an Incident Response Team, designed to swiftly address and mitigate the effects of an attack, an essential resource, especially for smaller municipalities that often have fewer resources to protect themselves against these threats.
Digital Surveillance Service and Information Security Committee
One of the key elements of this initiative is the implementation of a Digital Surveillance Service, which aims to anticipate possible attacks and effectively manage threats in Madrid municipalities. This service will allow real-time monitoring and predicting vulnerabilities, offering greater protection at the local level.
Additionally, the Cybersecurity Agency will create an Information Security Committee, responsible for establishing policies, principles, and procedures to help identify risks and define preventive actions. This committee will ensure the consistency and effectiveness of cybersecurity strategies at all administrative levels of the region.
Education and Awareness: Pillars of Comprehensive Cybersecurity
The Community of Madrid is not only focusing on technology and infrastructure but also on the training of its citizens. The Cybersecurity Agency has launched a training program aimed at both the population and the municipalities in the region. This initiative seeks to raise awareness about the importance of digital security and share the tools and resources implemented by the regional government. Each session will address the main issues faced by localities and provide practical recommendations to improve the protection of municipal data and services.
A Strategic Cybersecurity Plan for the Entire Community
The Ministry of Digitalization is already developing the Strategic Cybersecurity Plan, which will be published before the end of the year. This plan will serve as a roadmap for managing cyberattacks across the Community of Madrid in a systematic and efficient manner, establishing a coordinated response based on best cybersecurity practices.
With this series of measures, Madrid reinforces its commitment to digital security, adapting to the demands of the current environment and providing its agencies and citizens with the necessary tools to address the challenges of the digital era.
