Loongson announces its new 8-core CPU 3B6600: performance comparable to 12th and 13th generation Intel Core

Loongson has officially revealed its upcoming desktop processor, the 3B6600, which will feature 8 cores and significant improvements in performance and efficiency. According to the company, this new chip has the potential to compete with mid-to-high-range Intel CPUs, such as the Core i5 and i7 from the 12th and 13th generations.

Improvements in Architecture and Performance

The 3B6600 maintains the manufacturing process of its predecessor, the 3A6000, but with an optimized structure. Equipped with the new LA864 architecture, Loongson claims that this design improves performance by 30% compared to its previous version. Additionally, the chip will integrate single-core frequency boost technology, reaching up to 3.0 GHz from a base of 2.5 GHz.

In terms of processing power, the company anticipates that both single-core and multi-core performance of the 3B6600 could match or surpass more than 50% of the desktop CPUs currently available on the market.

Support for New Technologies

The Loongson 3B6600 not only stands out for its CPU performance but will also incorporate a GPGPU graphics core, the LG200, providing support for parallel computing applications and enhancing overall graphics performance. Additionally, it will support DDR5 memory, PCIe 4.0 interface, and HDMI 2.1 video output, enabling its use in a wide range of applications, from workstations to gaming rigs.

Advancements in Server Processors and GPUs

The company has also reported advancements in its line of server processors. Its upcoming chip, the 3C6000, currently in the testing phase, will feature 16 cores and 32 threads, with estimated performance comparable to the Intel Xeon 4314. Moreover, the 3D6000 model, with 32 cores and 64 threads, is expected to compete with high-end CPUs like the Xeon 6338.

Regarding graphics solutions, Loongson is developing its first GPGPU, the 9A1000, aimed at artificial intelligence and accelerated computing applications. This graphics card, with estimated performance similar to the AMD RX550, is expected to enter production in the first half of 2025.
