LockEM and QuantumNova startups have unveiled Quasar, an innovative project that combines QuantumNova’s QS-P NETWORKS with LockEM’s LATO system, incorporating advanced Quantum Random Number Generation (QRNG) technology. This collaboration sets a new standard in cybersecurity solutions, offering the world’s first quantum shield of cyber-resilience fortified with post-quantum encryption.
The presentation of Quasar took place during the “Innovation Day Taguspark” dedicated to Cybersecurity, held at Taguspark – Cidade do Conhecimento on May 16th.
A Quantum Approach to Digital Security
The increase in technological advancements and geopolitical tensions has heightened the risk of cyber warfare in the digital realm. Recent data from Checkpoint Research points to a 28% increase in cyber-attacks in early 2024, with a 64% rise in ransomware attacks in Europe alone. In response to this alarming trend, Quasar emerges as the culmination of advanced research and collaboration between LockEM and QuantumNova. By integrating QS-P NETWORKS, LATO, and QRNG, Quasar offers unparalleled cybersecurity, protecting both data in transit and data at rest against current and future cyber threats.
Leadership Voices
Luis Rosa, CEO of LockEM, emphasized the need for innovative solutions in the fight against cybercrime: “The battle against cybercrime is like a David vs. Goliath scenario. No matter how efficient our protection systems are, variables like the human factor will always compromise system security. We use technologies like Artificial Intelligence to detect attack patterns and respond more effectively to cybercrime threats. With this project, we aim to make accessible solutions that support the recovery of the most critical digital assets, enabling businesses to quickly restore service.”
On the other hand, Henrique Ferreira, CTO of LockEM, explained: “The Quasar Project is the union of the best our companies have to offer. This solution not only incorporates information resilience and rapid operational recovery after a cyber-attack but also reinforces data with the robustness of post-quantum algorithms and quantum entropy to ensure enhanced encryption security. Additionally, we combine this technology with cloud flexibility, allowing for agile and scalable data encryption and storage.”
The Importance of QRNG
André Grilo, CEO of QuantumNova, highlighted the relevance of QRNG in digital security: “QRNG is a crucial piece in the puzzle of digital security, as it is a technology capable of generating truly random numbers, an essential resource for creating secure cryptographic keys. In the context of advanced attacks, including those that may leverage future quantum computers to break traditional cryptographies, QRNG offers a resilient and unbreakable layer of security. This level of protection is indispensable to prevent espionage and data theft strategies, known as ‘Store now, decrypt later’ (SNDL) attacks.”
Launch and Future
With a planned launch in 2025, Quasar is designed to meet the needs of industries, governments, and organizations worldwide, providing a robust defense mechanism against the ever-changing landscape of cybercriminality. The combination of advanced technologies and a focus on post-quantum encryption ensures that Quasar is an essential tool for any entity looking to safeguard their digital assets against future threats.
