IONOS, a leading cloud service provider, has announced that it has obtained the coveted C5 accreditation in accordance with the current “Cloud Computing Compliance Criteria Catalogue” (C5) from the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). This prestigious distinction has been awarded to IONOS’ Compute Engine, Cloud Cubes, and S3 Object Storage services after undergoing a thorough evaluation by an independent auditing firm. The C5 accreditation confirms that IONOS meets the highest standards of cloud security and data protection.
The assessment conducted by auditors included a detailed analysis of IONOS’ internal control system design and organization description, as well as verification that the implemented controls were appropriately designed. Furthermore, over 190 control mechanisms used by IONOS to meet essential requirements in terms of cloud information security were examined.
Achim Weiss, CEO of IONOS, emphasized the importance of this accreditation, stating, “IONOS has always been a strong partner when it comes to digitizing sensitive data and applications. With this C5 accreditation and our certification according to ‘IT-Grundschutz,’ we are once again demonstrating that we meet the highest requirements in terms of data protection and IT security. Companies in regulated industries and the public sector in particular can benefit from this.”
The C5 criteria catalog, created by the BSI in 2016 and updated in 2019, sets the minimum requirements for secure cloud computing and encompasses 125 criteria in 17 crucial thematic areas such as access control, business continuity, backup, and vendor management. Claudia Plattner, president of BSI, commented, “The C5 requirement catalog has established itself as the highest standard for cloud security in the market. We are very pleased that IONOS has received this accreditation and previously the IT-Grundschutz certificate. This is another step towards cloud service security in Germany and Europe.”
In addition to the C5 accreditation, IONOS also obtained the IT-Grundschutz certification in September 2022, making it the first cloud service provider to offer both distinctions for its services. The IT-Grundschutz certification confirms that IONOS has implemented appropriate computer security measures and operates an effective information security management system.
Achim Weiss concluded, “We have invested heavily in the performance and security of our cloud platform in recent years. Therefore, I am very pleased that our high security standard has also been certified by independent organizations.”
The C5 accreditation and IT-Grundschutz certification reinforce IONOS’ position as a leader in the cloud services industry in terms of security and data protection, offering its customers the confidence and peace of mind they need in an ever-evolving digital environment.
