During a recent visit to the San Jorge Vocational Training Center in Santurce, in the Basque Country, Aotec’s CEO, Gonzalo Elguezábal, had the opportunity to immerse himself in one of the most cutting-edge initiatives in the field of telecommunications: a telecommunications cabin and micro CPD powered by hydrogen fuel cell developed by Sacen.
This innovative installation, which was recently inaugurated, exemplifies the potential of new technologies applied to the telecommunications sector. Designed to house a multi-operator mobile telephony base station, it incorporates not only a CPD and antennas but also a renewable energy module that makes it energy self-sufficient. This feature is key for the efficient and sustainable deployment of critical infrastructures in the current context of energy and digital transition.
The smart cabin, located inside a compact container, has been conceived to facilitate the deployment of connectivity technologies, including future developments in 5G, allowing for remote management and control. According to Sacen, the company behind this project, the hydrogen fuel cell is complemented by a renewable energy unit consisting of solar panels and a vertical-axis wind turbine, thus ensuring its operation through “green” energy.
Elguezábal’s visit, accompanied by Sacen’s CEO, Mikel Centeno, and the sales director, Anabel Ribo, underlines the importance of these innovative solutions for the future of the telecommunications sector in Spain and Europe. Energy efficiency and environmental sustainability are increasingly relevant aspects in the management of critical infrastructures, and projects like Sacen’s demonstrate that progress can be made on both fronts.
Sacen, which started as a start-up in 2013, has been known for its focus on developing mobile infrastructure systems that improve efficiency and energy consumption. Their participation as an exhibitor at the upcoming Aotec Technology Fair 2024, to be held at the Bilbao Exhibition Center on May 9th and 10th, promises to be an excellent opportunity for industry professionals to learn about these innovations up close.
Sacen’s initiative not only reflects the industry’s commitment to technological innovation and sustainability but also highlights the crucial role that renewable and alternative energy solutions will play in the evolution of telecommunications. With projects like this, Spain positions itself at the forefront of a constantly transforming sector, ready to tackle the challenges of the digital age with intelligent and sustainable solutions.
