Inetum promotes technological innovation with a new R&D&I center at Walqa Technology Park

Inetum has announced the opening of a new Research, Development, and Innovation (R&D+i) Center at the Walqa Technology Park, an initiative through which the company reinforces its commitment to Aragón as a strategic hub for advancing technological innovation, developing digital talent, and fostering entrepreneurship.

The new facility, called Walqa Lab, aims to address the main emerging technological challenges, with a special focus on areas such as advanced cybersecurity, generative artificial intelligence, smart automation, and next-generation digital platforms. Through this project, the company intends to develop innovative technological solutions from Aragón that can be directly applied in both the public sector and private enterprise, supporting the local productive fabric.

According to Andrés Iborra, a consultant in innovation, artificial intelligence, and data analysis at Inetum, the creation of the center will turn Walqa into a strategic hub for attracting cutting-edge technology and generating applied knowledge to meet digital challenges already transforming the economy. In this context, he highlighted the region’s innovative ecosystem and institutional support as key factors in driving research and development.

The center also aspires to become a meeting point for connecting talent, creativity, and new digital capabilities. In the words of Jesús Otero López, the company’s innovation manager, the goal is to create a space for experimenting, co-creating solutions, and bringing innovation to market and society, especially in areas like cybersecurity, generative AI, and advanced technological architectures.

One of the strategic areas of the new laboratory will be R&D in cybersecurity, focused on analyzing emerging vulnerabilities and developing tools to anticipate and mitigate threats. According to Rafael Otal, the head of this area, the aim is to transform research into practical solutions that strengthen organizational protection and facilitate the work of security teams.

In addition to driving technological projects, the center will have a strong educational component aimed at developing specialized talent in emerging technologies. Priority training areas include cybersecurity and digital infrastructure protection, generative artificial intelligence, automation through digital agents, cloud computing, and data engineering.

The initiative also envisions supporting local technological entrepreneurship, promoting collaboration with startups, emerging companies, and innovative projects seeking to accelerate their development through the use of advanced technologies.

The center will operate under Inetum’s innovation model, based on collaboration with universities, technological centers, startups, and large companies, as well as participation in national and European research programs. This approach aims to turn technological trends into concrete projects with impacts in sectors like digital health, energy, Industry 4.0, and smart governance.

With the launch of Walqa Lab, Inetum advances its strategy to promote the ethical, sustainable, and efficient use of technology, with the goal of improving processes, services, and ultimately, people’s quality of life.
