The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has announced its participation in the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) 2024, which will take place from December 15 to 19 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This global forum brings together diverse stakeholders to shape the future of the Internet under the theme “Building Our Multilateral Digital Future,” highlighting the importance of collaboration to ensure an inclusive, accessible, and secure network for all.
The ICANN delegation will be led by Kurtis Lindqvist, who will take over as president and CEO of the organization in December, alongside the chair of the Board of Directors, Tripti Sinha. ICANN will contribute to IGF 2024 with sessions and discussions focused on key topics of its mission, such as Domain Name System (DNS) security, Universal Acceptance (UA), and the expansion of DNS through the New Generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) program.
Among the sessions that ICANN will lead are:
- Day 0 Event: The Technical Community Safeguarding the Internet You Want (December 15, 11:45–12:45, local time).
- Day 0 Event: The Future of the Internet is Built on Open Standards (December 15, 14:30–15:30, local time).
- Workshop: Domain Names: Digital Inclusion and Innovation (December 16, 14:45–16:15, local time).
- Open Forum: WSIS+20: Enduring Principles of Internet Governance (December 17, 10:45–11:45, local time).
- Workshop: Language and Inclusion: Multilingual Names (December 17, 16:30–18:00, local time).
Additionally, ICANN will participate in the High-Level Leaders Session and the Parliamentary Track, reaffirming its commitment to an inclusive and multilateral approach to Internet governance.
