Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has announced the acquisition of Morpheus Data, a pioneering company in software for hybrid cloud operations management, in a decision that underscores HPE’s commitment to simplifying complexity in hybrid IT operations. This acquisition will be integrated into the HPE GreenLake offering, solidifying HPE as the first provider to offer a complete set of capabilities for hybrid cloud management.
Expanding HPE GreenLake capabilities
The acquisition of Morpheus Data is part of HPE’s strategy to expand the capabilities of its HPE GreenLake platform, a solution that allows companies to manage their IT environments more effectively, especially in infrastructures that combine traditional and modern technologies. Morpheus Data will bring advanced provisioning, orchestration, and automation capabilities for multi-vendor and multi-cloud applications, as well as FinOps capabilities for cloud cost optimization.
This move reinforces the previous acquisition of OpsRamp by HPE in 2023, focused on IT operations management. With the integration of Morpheus, HPE positions itself as the first provider to offer a complete set of enterprise services and capabilities for hybrid cloud, solidifying HPE GreenLake as the preferred platform for IT innovation.
A safe haven for modern workloads
According to Fidelma Russo, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Hybrid Cloud at HPE, the integration of Morpheus Data will allow HPE GreenLake to evolve into a platform that prevents IT complexity from becoming a barrier to innovation. “With the acquisition of Morpheus Data, we will take the next big step in making HPE GreenLake the platform of choice for innovation in hybrid IT environments,” Russo stated.
Morpheus Data will enable HPE customers to automate and manage the entire lifecycle of applications across hybrid environments, facilitating the provisioning and management of almost any workload, both in traditional infrastructures and modern clouds, including pre-existing private and public infrastructures.
Cloud cost optimization
HPE GreenLake will also benefit from Morpheus’s FinOps capabilities, allowing companies to optimize their cloud spending. The combination of HPE’s multi-cloud data with Morpheus’s capabilities will enable customers to better understand their cloud spending, set usage limits, and optimize their workloads to reduce costs.
Brian Wheeler, co-founder and CEO of Morpheus Data, highlighted the synergy between the two companies: “This acquisition is the result of a long-term relationship between HPE and Morpheus Data, which has already proven successful with customers. Together, we will help more companies transform their multi-cloud and multi-vendor IT environments to thrive and innovate in an increasingly complex and fragmented IT landscape.”
Integration and availability
The transaction is expected to close in the early fourth quarter of HPE’s fiscal year 2024, subject to customary closing conditions. Morpheus Data technology will be integrated with the HPE GreenLake platform and HPE’s private cloud portfolio, but will also remain available as standalone software. HPE has assured that it will continue to support Morpheus’s existing customers and partnerships.
With this acquisition, HPE strengthens its position in the intelligent cloud operations market, a sector projected to reach $36 billion by 2027, solidifying HPE GreenLake as the leading platform for managing hybrid IT environments and cloud innovation.
