HashiCorp and IBM Strengthen Their Commitment to Hybrid Cloud Automation with New Integrations and Lifecycle Management Solutions

During HashiDays 2025 in London, the company presented significant updates in infrastructure and security, including support for IBM Z, OpenShift, and Red Hat Ansible.

At the conference HashiDays 2025, held internationally for the first time since its integration into IBM, HashiCorp announced an ambitious expansion of its automation vision for hybrid cloud environments. The event served as a platform to unveil new integrations with the portfolios of IBM and Red Hat, consolidating a unified approach to infrastructure lifecycle management (ILM) and security lifecycle management (SLM).

Currently, 94% of companies use cloud services, but only 20% achieve a full return on their investment. IBM estimates that by 2028, one billion new AI-based applications will be developed, significantly increasing the complexity of hybrid cloud. The joint strategy between IBM and HashiCorp aims to simplify this transition.

Comprehensive Automation from Deployment to Governance

During his address, Armon Dadgar, CTO and co-founder of HashiCorp, emphasized: “We want to provide a unified control platform for hybrid applications, incorporating policies, automation, and observability across all layers of the stack.” Key announcements include:

Infrastructure as Code: More Agile and Secure

  • Terraform with support for ephemeral resources (GA): to prevent the persistence of sensitive values.
  • Sentinel Library for AWS (GA): ready-to-use policies with a “secure by default” focus.
  • Terraform + Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform Integration: for complex automation flows with end-to-end infrastructure as code.

Modern Platforms, Including Mainframes

  • Terraform Provider for IBM Z: allows integration of mainframe environments into hybrid workflows.
  • HCP Terraform Premium SKU: new governance features and compatibility with private VCS systems.

Internal Platform as a Service for Developers

  • HCP Waypoint Actions (GA): post-deployment workflows like restart or rollback exposed by UI or CLI, isolating developers from underlying complexity.

Dynamic Storage Management

  • Nomad and Dynamic Volumes: support for flexible persistent storage, essential for stateful workloads in dynamic environments.

Integrated Security from Design

With the growth of hybrid environments, the attack surface also expands, necessitating continuous protection for organizations. HashiCorp responds with enhancements to its Security Lifecycle Management strategy:

  • HCP Vault Radar (GA): detects unmanaged secrets and credential proliferation.
  • Consul 1.21: simplifies observability and monitoring of external services.
  • Integration with Red Hat OpenShift: for both Vault and Consul, facilitating secure access to container workloads.
  • Vault Enterprise 1.19: support for post-quantum cryptography, automatic root password rotation, and limited certification authorities.

Additionally, Boundary Transparent Sessions (GA) were introduced, enabling secure access without disrupting user experience, along with the option to use custom DNS with HCP Vault Dedicated, improving connectivity in regulated environments.

Success Stories: Helvetia Insurance and IG Group

At the event, Helvetia Insurance shared how Terraform was crucial in its migration of 200 applications to AWS and Azure in one year. “Terraform was instrumental. Without it, we would not have met our goals,” said Matthias Mertens, cloud solutions architect.

Meanwhile, IG Group discussed how it scaled its security with HCP Vault, integrating over 60 teams into a centralized GitOps flow with version control, approvals, and audit logs.

Towards an Automated Hybrid Platform

HashiCorp reaffirmed its commitment to extending automation from on-premises to both public and private clouds. The company emphasized that its collaboration with IBM will provide a solid foundation for managing hybrid environments with security, efficiency, and scalability.

The updates presented will be available for both managed services on the HashiCorp Cloud Platform (HCP) and in self-hosted enterprise versions. Furthermore, with the expanded support for IBM Z and LinuxONE, HashiCorp’s ILM and SLM strategy also extends to mainframes, a key component in regulated environments.
