Global PC market grows 4.4% in Q2 2025, led by enterprise demand

The global personal computer (PC) market experienced a 4.4% year-over-year increase in the second quarter of 2025, with over 63 million units shipped, according to preliminary data released by Gartner. The growth is mainly driven by corporate demand, while the consumer segment remains stagnant.

“During the second quarter, enterprise demand surpassed consumer demand, supported by migrations to Windows 11 and the renewal of desktop computers purchased during the pandemic, while many individual buyers postponed their purchasing decisions,” explains Rishi Padhi, Gartner’s senior analyst.

Gartner estimates that worldwide PC shipments will grow by 2.4% across 2025, boosted by inventory pre-stocking in the U.S. due to tariffs and upgrade cycles to Windows 11 in other regions. However, the report warns that growth is expected to stabilize in the second half of the year, which could lead to excess inventory before the end of 2025.

Regional trends have been mixed. North America saw shipments decrease by 0.5%, while Asia-Pacific remained stable, ending several consecutive quarters of decline. In contrast, the EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) experienced a 5.3% growth, driven by higher-than-usual seasonal demand.

“Windows 11 updates continue to be a key driver, especially for desktop replacement. However, many organizations are opting to upgrade their existing equipment rather than purchase new devices,” emphasizes Padhi.

In the global manufacturer rankings, there were no significant changes in the second quarter. Lenovo led the market with a 26.9% share and a notable 13.9% year-over-year growth, followed by HP with a 22.3% share. Apple saw a 13.4% increase, solidifying its position as the fourth-largest vendor worldwide.

These figures include desktops and laptops running Windows, macOS, and Chrome OS. Shipment data refer to products sent to distribution channels and may be adjusted in the final report.

According to Gartner, these results indicate a moderate market recovery following previous contractions, with a clear divergence between consumer and enterprise behavior.
