Fujitsu opens its new office in Santiago de Compostela to drive quantum computing and other advanced technological capabilities in Galicia.

Fujitsu announces the opening of its new office in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, which took place on February 1, 2024. The office is located at the Santiago de Compostela Chamber of Commerce and will play a key role in expanding Fujitsu’s advanced technological capabilities in the region, particularly in the field of quantum computing.

The establishment of this office is part of Fujitsu’s commitment to providing highly qualified and proximate services to the Galician ecosystem, both in the public and private sectors, offering services in areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, infrastructure, and more. An important milestone will be the incorporation of the International Quantum Computing Center, a collaboration between Fujitsu, Cesga, and the support of the Xunta de Galicia. This center, with international projection, aims to position Galicia as a benchmark in quantum computing, improving the competitiveness of Galician companies and the public sector.

It is essential to highlight that the opening of this office is not limited to commercial activities, but focuses on the creation of highly qualified employment. Fujitsu has already established collaborations with renowned academic institutions such as the University of Santiago de Compostela (Citius), the University of A Coruña (Citic), and Cesga. Additionally, the company is part of the Galician Quantum Network, playing a crucial role as a leading company in the region. Furthermore, Fujitsu actively engages in the Galician interuniversity Quantum Master, offering classes and internships to students with the opportunity to join the company.

Fujitsu has also established collaborations with Galician companies such as Hijos de Rivera, Zendal, Nueva Pescanova, and Finsa for the application of “quantum-inspired” technologies through the Fujitsu Digital Annealer.

The company has extensive technological capabilities, especially in sectors relevant to the public sector, including genomics in healthcare, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and services for Justice.

The International Quantum Center, headquartered in Santiago since February 1, aims to accelerate the arrival of quantum technologies to the market, working closely with the public-private ecosystem. Collaborations are being established with Galician actors at the European level in the fields of quantum computing and post-quantum cryptography, including reference entities such as TU Delft. Furthermore, quantum applications are being explored to enhance sustainability and quality of life in areas such as the environment, in line with Fujitsu Uvance’s global strategy.

Almudena Justo, Director of the Fujitsu International Quantum Center, will lead the new office in Galicia and emphasizes the importance of this milestone for the company: “We establish the new office in Galicia thanks to the contract with Cesga that we won in 2023, where we provide the most powerful quantum computer in Spain and Southern Europe, currently installed. Thanks to this opportunity, we consolidate our presence in Galicia, strengthening our commitment to Cesga and Xunta, creating qualified employment and value for the region.”

The opening of Fujitsu’s office in Santiago de Compostela reflects the company’s commitment to Galicia and its focus on technological development and job creation in the region, further reinforcing its presence in the Spanish and European markets.
