Fortinet Opens Its First Data Center in Spain with an Investment of 40 Million Euros

The global company specializing in cybersecurity, Fortinet, has inaugurated its first data center in Spain, marking a milestone in its expansion strategy in Europe. The facility has seen an investment of 40 million euros and aims to enhance innovation and cloud service delivery across the continent.

A Cutting-Edge Campus

Fortinet’s new data center covers an area of 11,250 square meters and consists of two symmetrical buildings, with a total power capacity of 7 megawatts (MW). The infrastructure has achieved a ‘Tier 3’ certification and the ‘High Category’ of the National Security Scheme (ENS), ensuring high standards of quality and security for its services.

With this facility, Fortinet will expand its cloud service offerings, providing SaaS (Software as a Service) and SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) solutions to clients in France, Germany, and Portugal. Additionally, the location will also offer disaster recovery (DR) services to these markets.

Commitment to Sustainability

The data center in Torija has been designed with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability. The infrastructure has a B rating in the Energy Efficiency Certificate for Buildings, features photovoltaic panels for on-site renewable energy generation, and utilizes an indirect air cooling (IAC) system, allowing for efficient heat exchange. These characteristics achieve an energy efficiency ratio (PUE) of 1.1, where only 10% of the consumed energy is used for cooling.

Acacio Martín, Vice President of Fortinet Iberia, emphasized that this new center “provides unparalleled experiences and solutions to protect our clients, while reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability through energy-efficient design.”

A Boost for Cybersecurity and the Local Economy

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the president of the Community of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, as well as representatives from public administrations, clients, and Fortinet’s strategic partners. Joe Sarno, Executive Vice President of International Sales at the company, stressed that “this investment demonstrates Fortinet’s long-term commitment to cybersecurity and top-tier support for businesses across Europe and around the world.”

In addition to its technical infrastructure, Fortinet’s campus in Torija will host an executive meeting center aimed at strategic gatherings and demonstrations for clients and partners.

With this investment, Fortinet strengthens its presence in Spain and solidifies its role as a leader in the cybersecurity sector, ensuring more robust and efficient services for the European market.

Castilla-La Mancha, a Strategic Hub for Data Centers

The opening of Fortinet’s center reinforces Castilla-La Mancha’s position as a key territory for the expansion of technological infrastructures. The region has invested in the development of data centers, with notable projects such as Meta in Talavera de la Reina and Oasix by Grupo Aire, also in Talavera de la Reina, a facility aiming to establish itself as one of the largest data centers in Spain.

Furthermore, companies like Nabiax and Telxius have chosen Castilla-La Mancha to expand their operations, taking advantage of its strategic location, sustainable energy supply capacity, and collaboration with the regional government for the sector’s development. With these projects, the autonomous community positions itself as an emerging technological hub in the field of data centers and digital innovation.
