The company expands its range of storage solutions for backups with new equipment and advanced cybersecurity features.
The American firm ExaGrid, specialized in tiered backup storage solutions, has announced the launch of three new appliance models: EX20, EX81, and EX135, along with the general availability of its new software version 7.2.0, which includes significant improvements in security and compatibility with leading backup tools.
ExaGrid’s strategy remains focused on providing resilience against ransomware, featuring an architecture based on a landing zone for fast backups and a repository zone that is not exposed to the network (tiered air gap), equipped with deferred deletion and immutability, making it difficult for attackers to act even in the case of unauthorized access.
New models to enhance efficiency and scalability
With the introduction of the EX20, EX81, and EX135 models, ExaGrid’s 2U appliance line now features a total of eight available versions. This adds to the existing models EX10, EX36, EX54, EX84, and EX189. Each appliance comes equipped with its own processor, memory, network, and storage, allowing for consistent backup windows even as data volumes grow, avoiding disruptive upgrades.
One notable feature is that up to 32 appliances can be combined in a scale-out architecture, regardless of their size or age, which eliminates planned obsolescence of hardware.
In its largest configuration, with 32 units of the EX189 model, the system can manage up to 6 petabytes (PB) of full data with a gross capacity of 12 PB, making it the largest system in its class with integrated data deduplication.
Encryption and new layers of security
ExaGrid has also strengthened the security of its appliances with data encryption at rest options, both through hardware (SEC) and via a software upgrade option for certain models like the EX54, EX81, EX84, EX135, and EX189.
Among the most relevant new features in the version 7.2.0 software are:
- External key management (EKM) for encrypted data at rest using the KMIP 1.4 protocol, compatible with providers such as Thales, Fortanix, or Entrust.
- Compatibility with NetBackup Flex Media Server Appliances through the OST plugin.
- Support for Veeam S3 Governance Mode, enhancing the management of data stored in S3.
- Dedicated managed networks that allow for isolating the management interface from the rest of the traffic and limiting unauthorized access, increasing the security of the environment.
A focus on ransomware protection
Bill Andrews, President and CEO of ExaGrid, explained that the new additions are part of a continuous evolution strategy:
“ExaGrid is committed to addressing all the challenges of backup storage. With each release, we add features that enhance our ransomware capabilities while optimizing the performance and manageability of our solutions.”
ExaGrid thus reinforces its position in the market as the only provider offering a two-tier architecture with physical separation, deferred deletion, and data immutability. These features enable immediate restorations, long-term reliable backups, and effective protection against cyberattacks.
International presence and global support
With commercial and technical presence in over 30 countries, ExaGrid continues to expand its support network, including regions such as Latin America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa. Additionally, it boasts high customer satisfaction, evidenced by a Net Promoter Score (NPS) above 81, one of the highest in the industry.
