Equinix Marks a Milestone in Chile with the Opening of the First AI Liquid Cooling Data Center

Santiago, Chile – April 2025. The global digital infrastructure company Equinix has officially inaugurated the expansion of its ST2 data center, located in the Pudahuel district, marking a new milestone in the development of the digital ecosystem in Chile and Latin America. With an investment of $50 million, the new module becomes the first in the country to feature Liquid Cooling technology, an innovative solution designed to efficiently and sustainably support AI (Artificial Intelligence) intensive workloads.

This project reinforces Equinix’s commitment to the region, bringing its total investment in Chile to over $1 billion, solidifying its presence as one of the main players in connectivity, cloud, and data centers in Latin America.

Cutting-edge technology in service of sustainability

The new infrastructure not only stands out for its technological capabilities but also for its environmental focus. The closed-loop water cooling system significantly reduces water consumption and allows operations using 100% renewable energy, aligning with the sustainability standards the company promotes globally.

“The ST2 data center represents the future of digital infrastructure: efficient, sustainable, and ready for the demands of artificial intelligence,” highlighted Equinix representatives during the inaugural event.

An event that brought together authorities and industry leaders

The ceremony was attended by Chile’s Undersecretary of Telecommunications, Claudio Araya S., as well as representatives from the U.S. Embassy, AmCham Chile, clients, strategic partners, and company executives, who celebrated together the opening of this new phase.

During the event, the key role Equinix is playing in the digital transformation of the country was emphasized, facilitating interconnection among companies, public and private clouds, service providers, and end users.

Strategic impact for the technology industry in the region

In statements gathered by the Diario Financiero, Blanca Dulanto highlighted that this expansion not only increases the country’s operational capacity in terms of connectivity and data processing but also positions Chile as a strategic hub on the global digital map, especially at a time when AI solutions increasingly require high-performance infrastructure.

A more interconnected and responsible future

The Equinix team emphasized that this achievement is the result of the collective effort of its employees, technology partners, and clients. “Our commitment is clear: to continue working to build a digitally interconnected world, driven by innovation and guided by environmental responsibility,” they stated.

With this step, Chile solidifies its position as a key node in the development of emerging technologies and the adoption of green infrastructure for the new digital era. Equinix, in turn, reaffirms its commitment to lead this process from the southern part of the continent.
